Pre-Reg Pharmacist

1. JOB PURPOSE

This job description details the responsibilities and the general duties of the pre-registration pharmacist to deliver quality pharmaceutical care and to support patients in self-care.

2. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Reviews each patient’s medication chart or prescription for the appropriateness of the drugs prescribed and to contact the prescribing doctor when an intervention is needed.
2. Fulfils all drug orders accurately and in a timely manner.
3. Dispenses medications to patients, explaining the indications for drug therapy and instructions for administration.
4. Educates patient on the pharmacological and non-pharmacological aspects of their therapy. Checks compliance and encourages adherence to medication therapy where applicable
5. Ensures all sales and supply of medicinal products comply with legal requirements.
   1. Ensures records pertaining to all phases of drug receipt, supply, storage and distribution are maintained as required by the hospital and/or legal authorities.
   2. Performs inspections of assigned drug storage areas in the hospital.
6. Ensures that all related costs and revenue are accounted for and accurately recovered.
7. Provides drug information to patients and other healthcare professionals.
8. Responsible for the implementation and adherence to policies, practices and regulations established by the department, hospital and external regulatory agencies pertaining to pharmacy.
9. Represents the pharmacy on various committees and performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Chief, Pharmacy
