Your Opportunity
As a Civil EIT, you will be working on a wide variety of infrastructure projects, including the design of civil and municipal engineering projects for highways and local roads, public utilities and public works, parks, trails, and related infrastructure projects. This position involves working collaboratively with design teams in the development of construction plans and specifications; preparing reports, studies, and construction contract documents; computing quantities and preparing cost estimates; performing field observations and assisting in the coordination and management of construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure project design and field objectives are met.
Your Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for the role are varied; however, a successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Assisting in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
- Supporting the team in the development of civil designs, preparation of plans and specifications, reports and other technical tasks on projects under the supervision of a Project Manager or Project Engineer.
- Working with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, sustainability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Utilize three-dimensional technologies and modeling software in development, design and analysis of civil systems.
- Computing and reviewing cost estimates for project feasibility, budgeting, and value engineering opportunities.
- Collecting/analyzing data and performing calculations that support civil system design decisions and development process.
- Interpreting and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
- Communicating professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong interest in serving municipalities with their infrastructure needs.
- Basic understanding of general concepts of civil engineering design, materials and industry standards.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas effectively.
- Ability to take direction and prioritize multiple assignments.
- Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as relevant software programs which may include Civil3D, GIS or other technical software.
- Have the aptitude to develop the skills to effectively interact with project teams, clients and agencies.
- Must have good driving record, and valid driver’s license. Position may require some travel to projects within the Minneapolis metro area.
- Must have the ability to traverse construction sites, which at time include walking up and down slopes and uneven terrain.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Related Co-op/Internship experience preferred for new graduates; 1-2 years of related civil engineering experience for more experienced engineers.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and the ability to navigate variable terrain.
