Description
The Transportation Manager is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of the Transportation Practice within Nebraska & Iowa. The Transportation Manager will lead the development of the business line in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service. Part of this development will involve the Transportation Manager serving as a key part of a seller/doer team who will manage all aspects of transportation projects for DOT and municipal clients from business development, scope, and fee development; contracting; staffing plan development; risk identification and management; project oversight; quality management; and financial performance. The Transportation Manager will coordinate closely with the Regional Office Manager and Transportation Leadership Team to help set strategic goals for the region.
- Develops a long-term strategic plan. Identifies, develops and directs the implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing strategies and pricing strategies, and sales and customer retention strategies. Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition.
- Develop new and manage existing client relationships while interfacing with the client for proposal and project-related items.
- Identify transportation project opportunities early and participate in go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office leadership and Transportation GP leadership.
- Lead pursuit strategy and capture plan development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.
- Lead or facilitate proposal development, based on client feedback and key win themes for project pursuits.
- Serve as a client account manager for select transportation clients – client account managers will take primary responsibility for ultimate delivery of services and client satisfaction. Achieves stated targets and standards for financial performance. Present monthly financial information to leadership including schedules and budget forecasts.
- Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of staff development, quality control and resource coordination.
- Plan, organize and communicate project personnel needs to management.
- Recruits, hires, develops and retains outstanding employee-owners.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.
- Analyze, monitor, and communicate project health (financials, schedule, quality, and risks) to all internal and external stakeholders.
- Plans, coordinates, communicates and facilitates activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.
- Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies, as well as promote the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors. Ensures quality and safety standards.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. A minimum of 7 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the consulting engineering industry or project management. At least 10 years of experience preferred.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Nebraska and Iowa strongly preferred.
- Entrepreneurial nature and successful experience in client and business development.
- Successful experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
- Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
- Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
- Excellent planning and analytical skills.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Excellent knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
