What to Expect
The Tesla Tool & Die Apprenticeship program is a four-year academic and on the job training program that will produce the next generation of specialists in the trade.
The selected apprentices will complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with a mentor while attending courses at a local community college. Courses are paid for by Tesla for selected apprentices. At the completion of the program, apprentices will receive a federally recognized journey worker certification and stackable college certifications to apply towards the next level degree.
Tool & Die Apprentices will develop the necessary skills by shadowing mentors in both die assembly and die tryout. Apprentices will perform the same tasks as mentors demonstrating progression in their abilities over a four-year period.
What You’ll Do
- Perform manual and CNC machining on mills and lathes
- Operate manual machines including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, sanders, and saws
- Work with others to produce a wide variety of components and assemblies
- Perform equipment maintenance and repair
- Ensure a safe work environment by following safety requirements
- Setup, tryout, and operation of stamping dies in powered mechanical presses
- Attend courses assigned at a local community college
What You’ll Bring
- Experience with welding and working with hand tools preferred but not required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills
- The drive to excel in an academic and training environment
- Must have strong command of the English language, both written and verbal
