Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
The Role
We have an immediate opportunity for a Forensic Architect with experience or interest in forensic investigation, litigation support, expert witness testifying, and design of architectural repairs and retrofits.
This individual will independently execute architectural investigations of existing buildings, identify and possibly design remedial repairs for deficient conditions. The investigations include assessment of building code deficiencies, building envelope defects, and cause and origin analysis. The candidate will be required to document and communicate findings in written reports. The candidate will be required to provide direction to, and review the work product of, entry-level staff; coordinate with other project managers on interdisciplinary efforts; support business development efforts, and develop and maintain client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Independently conduct assessments of building envelope, fire-rated construction, disabled accessibility, and other architectural elements.
- Design and conduct origin and cause investigations.
- Review, specify and observe testing protocols.
- Perform document review and analysis, related to litigation support matters including standard of care.
- Analysis of building codes and various industry standards
- Memorialize findings in written communication, including reports
- Communicate with clients to understand project requirements and communicate findings
- Complete technical and investigative reports to support forensic findings and prepare materials related to presentations.
- Manage and mentor other design team members.
- Perform peer reviews of architectural design and condition assessments, including order of magnitude cost estimating
- Potentially serve as a testifying expert in arbitration, deposition, or trial.
Requirements
- Degree (Master’s preferred) in Architecture or Architectural Engineering
- California Professional Architect License required; NCARB registration a plus.
- 8 to 12 years of Architecture experience
- Ability and willingness to travel within the US and internationally a plus
- Proficient in Sketchup, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Studio experience with Revit a plus.
CompensationThe rate for this position generally is $110,000 – $125,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful California applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in California or perform the position from California. Similar positions located outside of California will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by California Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
