Job Summary
Shambaugh & Son, L.P. is seeking a Structural Engineer in our Fort Wayne, IN office. In this position, you will be responsible for working with our National Design Build Team assisting the assembly of designs for entire food manufacturing facilities to be constructed across the United States or simple equipment platforms to be installed locally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Working closely on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionals
- Developing structural design ideas for foundations, slabs, structures and miscellaneous deferred design elements including large platforms, stairs, joists, deck and miscellaneous metal fabrications
- Working out the loads and stresses on different parts of a structure
- Using computer simulations to predict how structures will react under different conditions
- Making calculations about loads and stresses
- Selecting appropriate construction materials
- Providing technical advice to other members on the team
- Obtaining planning and/or building regulations approval
- Monitoring and inspecting work undertaken by subcontractors and/or our own trades
- Managing aspects of projects
- Participating in preconstruction estimating efforts
- Inspecting properties to check conditions/foundations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (essential)
- 5+ years of work experience as a Structural Engineer (preferred)
- Professional Engineer’s license in Indiana
- Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials and legal regulations
- Ability to assemble fabrication and/or bid set drawing packages
- Ability to liaise with professionals from other disciplines
- Experience with subcontractor management
- Experience in project management
- Good communications skills to communicate with customers on site
- Three-dimensional conceptual skills
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
- Meticulous attention to detail with the superb organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and IT skills
- Physically able to perform work, including perform construction job site visits
- Ability to multi-task
- Flexibility with schedule
