Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is passionate about providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers worldwide, powered by exceptional technology. This work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.
The Distribution Services Engineering (DSE) team are infrastructure control professionals who employ best-practices to develop scalable, automated solutions for managing our expanding caching solutions. DSE is responsible for our media distribution control plane, which entails provisioning and maintaining the availability of Disney’s owned and operated Origin, Mid-Tier, and Edge appliances that serve content for Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+.
The DSE team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer specializing in user interface and experience design to control and provision a global-scale fleet of caching servers responsible for delivering content for our various Disney-owned brands around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Ownership of UI/UX framework components, libraries, and design for various cache control plane products
- Build and maintain automated and reusable front-end test frameworks to improve code quality and development velocity
- Diagnose, debug, and lead root cause analysis efforts for front-end issues in production or test environments
- Continuously improve efforts to optimize the UI / back-end query interaction with the goal of a highly scalable and performant UI/UX
- Lead and mentor junior front end developers in cross-team UI/UX committee
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field
- 5+ years of software development experience
- Strong proficiency in (in order of importance):
- Vue.js UI framework
- Javascript
- HTML/CSS
- Experience working on high-scale back-end control plane interface design
- Ability to interact with developers and advise technology managers at a technical level
- Ability to develop and implement high-quality code in a timely manner
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative and fast paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive demonstrated experience designing and implementing Vue.js UI components
- Prior experience in the media and video entertainment delivery industry
- Prior experience working with on-premise, AWS cloud, and hybrid deployments

The hiring range for this position in New York City is $145,400 – $195,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
