Responsibilities
The position is within the MBIS team which is responsible for the development of the world’s leading Criminal Justice Biometric systems, serving a vast number of Law Enforcement agencies around the world from local PDs to the largest and most prestigious National and Federal agencies on the planet.
Are you passionate about leading software transformations and driving innovation? We are seeking a skilled and experienced Architect to join our team and lead the multi-year transformation of our flagship product on the Law Enforcement market, MBIS. As the Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping the future direction of the product and driving its evolution towards cloud-native technologies while maintaining compatibility with on-premise deployments. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on our product’s architecture and drive its modernization across multiple fronts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architectural design and roadmap for the MBIS software product, encompassing both the back-end infrastructure and front-end client applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and product management, to understand business requirements and translate them into architectural solutions.
- Drive the adoption of cloud-native technologies, such as Blob Storage, Azure PostGreSQL, and Azure AD, while ensuring compatibility with on-premise deployments.
- Modernize the existing Java-based thick client applications and legacy web applications (Java Server Faces and Polymer) by migrating them to modern frameworks like React and SpringBoot.
- Gradually replace the J2EE backend with more modern frameworks, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to development teams, fostering best practices and ensuring architectural consistency across the product.
Salary information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $129,000 – $188,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is a strong plus.
- Proven experience as a Software Architect, preferably with a strong background in Java-based software products.
- In-depth knowledge of Java, J2EE, and experience with back-end technologies, including database design, workflow rules, and external communication.
- Familiarity with a variety of front-end technologies, such as Angular, React JS, Java Server Faces, and Polymer.
- Expertise in cloud-native architectures and experience deploying applications to cloud platforms, specifically Azure Cloud.
- Strong understanding of modern frameworks and technologies, including React, SpringBoot, Blob Storage, Azure PostGreSQL, and Azure AD.
- Previous experience with software modernization and transformation projects is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to balance long-term vision with immediate business needs.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
