Overview
Responsible for the design of deliverables associated with the civil / structural portion of substation design projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients.
Design activities include the development of relay house drawings, foundation layout and details, steel layout and details, oil containment drawings, firewall drawings, grading, drainage and paving drawings and the complete bill of materials.
The position will be reporting directly to the Substation Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Will perform engineering tasks as the substation structural engineering lead and manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Attends project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives.
- Prepares engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules.
- Develops top level documents for substation civil / structural design packages.
- Provides guidance to junior engineers and / or designers in the development of detailed design documents.
- Will gather data, perform engineering analysis, prepare calculations, construction drawings and specifications.
- Prepares equipment specifications for procurement of major equipment.
- Performs quality control reviews of design calculations, and drawings.
- Provides short term field support during construction.
- Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (electrical, telecom, transmission, etc.)
- Serves as technical advisor for the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
- 10-15 years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
- Professional Engineer’s License in civil / structural engineering.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with substation design and construction standards for Southern California Edison.
- Experience with AutoCAD and / or MicroStation.

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Salary range for this position is $120,000 – $160,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
