HDR is looking for a Senior Project Architect with strong project management, design and construction documentation skills to join our South Atlantic Transportation Architecture team. This position may be based out of one of the following HDR offices: Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, or Nashville. The Transportation Architecture team is involved in a wide variety of architectural projects, including the following: transit, aviation, passenger terminals, rail/vehicle maintenance facilities, commercial office, mixed-use, institutional/public facilities, transit oriented development (TOD), urban design and placemaking. The team includes interdisciplinary design professionals, including Architects, Landscape Architects, and Urban Planners/Designers. Duties may include the following: managing project teams, independently evaluating/selecting/applying architectural, urban design, planning, site design techniques, permitting procedures, land use regulations, zoning rules and modifications. The Senior Project Architect will be expected to have strong Revit skills, which will be used to edit construction documentation and perform architectural design assignments with only general instruction from Architectural Directors or Project Managers. They will be expected to work directly with owners and allied professionals. They will also be involved with selection and recommendation of products and building systems, writing architectural specifications and reports, developing drawing details, performing code reviews, and coordinating the drawings of multiple disciplines independently and in cooperation with junior and senior professionals. This role may be assisted by Project Architects, Architectural Project Coordinators or Technicians, and may be responsible for work in all phases of the design process. They will be expected to perform comprehensive code research for municipal and technical topics as well as engage in proactive communication within project teams. They will also participate in the conceptual design process and provide full technical support to Project Directors or Project Managers as project teams move through preliminary design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents for a multitude of exciting projects across the region. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Project Architect will also be expected to:
• Work directly with the Architectural Project Manager in the execution of architecture projects
• Organize complete sets of production drawings
• Interpret and meet building code and NFPA 130 requirements
• Take conceptual designs through design development and construction documentation
• Coordinate with architectural staff and other disciplines such as civil, landscape, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and communication systems
• Provide oversight and direction of architectural and technical staff in all areas of technical work performance
• Demonstrate attention to detail and follow through

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
- Minimum of 10 years related work experience
- Experience with Public Agencies either in-house or as a consultant
- Registered Architect/NCARB required
- Must be a strong team player, with a collaborative team-approach work style and the ability to self-motivate and lead discussions
- Skill in Revit (BIM), AutoCAD required
- Experience with specification editing
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation architecture preferred
- Project Design and Management experience with bus and rail passenger terminals/stations, aviation terminals and related facilities and structures and engineering integration desired
- Additional 3D experience with Photoshop, SketchUp, 3D Max, Rhino or BIM platforms preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), AutoCAD or Microstation, and 2D drawing experience highly desired
- Desire to pursue growth opportunities with an interest in transport architecture, urban design, TOD and mixed-use development, and sustainable design/LEED certification desired but not required
- Local candidates are preferred
