The Subscriber Planning team within DTC Finance is a highly visible team of professionals with backgrounds in consulting, investment banking, private equity, media & entertainment, and technology who serve as in-house advisers to The Walt Disney Company’s DTC executive leadership team and own the subscriber, engagement and revenue growth planning functions. The team’s activities and accomplishments have contributed directly to the rapid growth and success of the Disney’s suite of streaming services: Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Analyst that will play a key role in growing our direct-to-consumer business, with a focus on Domestic Subscriber Planning. This Senior Analyst will be responsible for leading the subscriber forecasting process for the Disney+ Domestic standalone business, in addition to the Disney Bundles with Hulu and ESPN+. They will help identify some of the business’ key issues and opportunities by providing subscriber transparency and help provide solutions by partnering with cross functional teams to evaluate critical initiatives. This is inclusive of but not limited to: modeling the impacts of various new product offerings, developing and supervising KPI’s to drive execution, monitor performance of the service, and more. They will also be responsible for collaborating closely with collaborators from Hulu, ESPN+, Data & Analytics, Marketing, Business Operations, Executive Reporting.
The right person for this role has phenomenal analytical skills, experience in working with large data sets and building sophisticated financial models, sets a high bar for themselves, and must display initiative in anticipating and exceeding the business demands of the key team members. This role will be data-focused, responsible for sharing business insights, providing strategic recommendations, and influencing key operational decisions.
The pace and cadence for change at Disney necessitates an ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate with multiple team members, and roll up sleeves to support this important segment of the Disney business.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
- Manage and improve the Domestic Subscriber planning and forecasting process & key underlying assumptions
- Lead and support strategic ad hoc analysis to highlight critical metric trends, opportunities / risks to plan, size new product offerings, etc.
- Develop impactful, compelling presentation materials (decks, notes, write-ups, backup materials, etc.) that effectively communicates outlooks, drivers, business performance, risks and opportunities to senior leadership
- Act as a point of contact for operational support teams (Business Operations, Data & Analytics, Executive Reporting, Marketing, Hulu & ESPN+, to name a few) and ensure alignment on key assumptions and understanding of important metrics
- Be able to seamlessly move between different research projects and analysis raised by team leaders to inform decision-making
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
- Minimum two years of strategy or finance experience and proven track record with a top tier tech or media & entertainment firm, management consultancy or investment bank / private equity firm
- Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier school with a major in Finance, Economics or similar subject area with an analytical bias; MBA from a top graduate business school (or equivalent experience) is a plus
- Strong analytical capabilities and financial modeling skills (MS Excel), including the ability to build models from scratch
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including PowerPoint) and ability to simplify sophisticated matters for an executive audience
- Ability to work well in teams, both within the group and also with other business units
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects at the same time, while keeping management accurately advised
- Familiarity with working in or with global, large organizations is a plus
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $104,300.00 to $130,300.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
