Description
The Sales and Use (Indirect Tax) Manager will have responsibility for planning, compliance, audit response, and software implementation/maintenance for indirect tax in multiple jurisdictions, with a primary focus on US sales and use tax. The indirect tax manager will play a critical role in setting the direction of an evolving tax department within a dynamic and growing organization. The indirect tax manager will report to the tax director and will collaborate generally with professionals in the company’s tax department and specifically with professionals on the indirect tax team.
Job Duties:
- Provide day-to-day and strategic oversight of the indirect tax function.
- Collaborate with team of indirect tax professionals.
- Maintain expertise in multi-state sales and use tax concepts, with an emphasis on concepts common in the construction industry.
- Maintain working knowledge of international indirect tax concepts, with an emphasis on value added taxes.
- Provide indirect tax advice to project teams and other internal stakeholders.
- Develop relationships across the organization to understand the business and to optimize tax positions.
- Manage indirect tax compliance and audit processes.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the organization’s indirect tax software, including the interaction of the indirect tax software with other enterprise business solutions.
- Design, develop, test, and validate system scenarios and integrations for indirect tax software.
- Develop indirect tax policies/procedures and provide related training to internal stakeholders.
- Manage multiple projects and communicate results to tax director and finance leadership.
- Drive innovation and transformation within the tax group with a focus on solutions that allow the indirect tax function to scale with the business.
- Mentor less experienced tax professionals to support their professional development.
- Coordinate with other tax managers to foster a positive working dynamic within the tax department.
- Conduct all other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 11 years sales/use tax experience required. Extra credit may be given for public accounting experience.
- Experience with Oracle ERP system and Vertex Indirect Tax O Series software (preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing indirect tax in the construction industry (preferred)
- Working knowledge of international value added taxes (preferred).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to independently ensure accurate work.
- Ability to operate under time-sensitive deadlines.
- Possess strong leadership and communication skills.
