What to Expect
We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated, team-oriented Quality Technician to be responsible for evaluating parts produced on various lines (high voltage electro-mechanical, components and subassemblies for Model S/3/X/Y/Cyber/Semi etc.), and end of line testing in a high-speed environment. Quality Technicians will flag production parts found to be suspect or nonconforming, remove from line and support engineering with containment activities through clean point to ensure Tesla standards are being met. They must be prepared to escalate concerns to the appropriate parties and always promote a culture of quality. The purpose of the Quality Technician is to minimize the number of defective parts that are sent to downstream departments and assist multiple teams in maintaining and improving overall part quality, yielding beneficial results and higher efficiency for Tesla.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate parts at the start, middle and end of production runs
- Document & communicate all identified defects
- Ability to create/Close NC’s (Non-Conformance) using MOS and MES
- Guide production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, needs repair, or scrap
- Document & communicate any identified defects. Escalate concerns that are not being properly resolved in your immediate work area
- Comprehend current production quality standards and determine if ongoing production meets those standards
- Communicate emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support investigation, containment, and execution for strategic quality issues
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with members of nearby teams
- Align with Quality engineering team to support incoming and in-process quality activities
- Adhere to strict 5S standards and maintain cleanliness in the work area
- Observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks
- Complete requested activities as assigned
- Work from schematics, diagrams, layouts, defined plans, and written/verbal instructions
- Required to work with and around hazardous areas, high voltage, chemicals, and materials
- Maintain quality performance metrics and drive issues to root cause solutions
- Be punctual with attendance and with escalations in a timely manner
- Other Duties as assigned by Manager
What You’ll Bring
- Ability to visually detect defects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to physically feel defects and abnormalities
- Ability to identify and differentiate between various defect types
- Ability to determine severity of a defect and the required response
- Ability to perform detailed daily record keeping and reporting of quality issues that will be referenced by technicians, engineers, and management
- Ability to determine potential countermeasure solutions against failed inspections
- Ability to communicate new defect information to team leadership and counterparts
- Ability to help establish first line of defense for immediate containment activities
- Ability to build solid relationships with several teams in multiple departments
- Ability to be personable and effective in verbal and written communication
- Ability to apply critical thinking skillset to engage and troubleshoot new quality issues
- Ability to leverage general automotive surfacing knowledge
- 2+ years’ experience in an automotive production or manufacturing quality assurance environment
- Ability to lift and walk with objects up to 30 pounds in weight
- Work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals
- Experience in a fast-paced work environment requiring critical analysis is a plus
- Experience with basic measurement and inspection tools is a plus. (Calipers, Torque Wrenches, Gauges, Measuring Tape, etc.)
- Understanding of electro-mechanical, castings, and general assembly processes is a plus
- Experience with training peers or co-workers is a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is a plus
- Technical, organized, and proactive mindset. Neat handwriting is a plus
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal

Expected Compensation
$17.00 – $47.00/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
