Program Manager – Sustainability

Position Overview

Group: SIS (Owner’s Project Manager)

The Program Manager’s (PM) responsibility is to assist the Senior Program manager and Program Executive on various public and private assignments.  The position requires strong communication and coordination skills plus the ability to work within a team. The Program Manager must be flexible, an adaptable team-player, have strong time management skills plus the willingness to help the team grow in new markets.

What You’ll Do:

Project Management Requirements:

• Strong public speaking and presentation skills;
• Ability to identify and participate in Business Development efforts;
• Experience with managing teams on multiple projects;
• Planning ability (high level familiarity with schedule, phasing etc);
• Participate in conceptual project planning and budgeting;
• Ability to work with designers, engineers and contractors;
• Program management experience highly desired;
• Preparation of monthly reports, as required, for approval by Program Executive;
• Lead project meetings;

Sustainability Manager Responsibilities:

• Be a resource to project teams who are launching a certified project to help the team understand their obligations toward certification and provide ongoing support and consulting to ensure the work of the project team is successful;
• Help teams with credit interpretation and feasibility during the early planning and start-up phases of the work;
• Support overall green business strategy with cost, technical, business development and advocacy assistance, as needed;
• Prepare sustainability materials for monthly LEED and/or Owner Architect Contractor meetings;
• Benchmark construction related carbon emissions on projects;
• As needed, provide training and assistance to sustainability engineers and junior managers;
• Assist other sustainability managers and directors with research and report development;
• Set up and maintain filing system for green certification documentation;
• Review documents submitted from construction projects pursuing green certification for compliance;
• Perform data entry and date entry management in tracking spreadsheets using the information provided by project engineers;
• Attend project meetings, take notes, provide guidance to teams with regard to carbon emissions benchmarking and certification;
• Create infographics and other materials for sustainability presentations;
• Represent Skanska as a leader in the sustainability space;
• Help other managers and directors to develop content and facilitate project sustainability workshops and presentations for clients, prospective clients, and internal teams;
• Participate in and help to coordinate and/or manage charitable events and individual volunteering;
• Research emerging technologies and new standards in the sustainability market;

We’re Looking For:

• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university is required with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture, or another job related field;
• 8 to 12 years of building construction, architecture, sustainability consulting or sustainability related experience;
• Knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design and LEED, WELL, and LBC rating systems;
• Green building understanding (strategies and certification)- energy efficiency, water efficiency, material toxicity and sourcing;
• Carbon accounting (tracking and reporting)- embodied carbon, business unit GHG inventory.
• Construction industry green building best practices;
• Relevant market trends and analysis (e.g. circularity, NZE);
• Accreditation and experience in at least one of the following four green building certification programs: LEED, WELL, LBC, Envision;
• Preferred experience in the areas of social equity/environmental justice, and responsible sourcing;
• Green building certification project experience- 10 projects preferred;
• Experience as sustainable building industry advocate and/or committee leader/member;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Willingness to attend night meetings, if required;
• Skilled in team support and collaboration;
• Skilled in meeting deadlines and providing quality service, while also occasionally working autonomously;
• Experience in developing and delivering training including forms, templates, PowerPoint presentations, checklists, etc;
• Preferred experience in public speaking and business development;
• Ability to pivot and re-prioritize often as needs of internal and external stakeholders change. Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products;
• Knowledge of scheduling software (Suretrak, Primavera, etc.);
