What to Expect
As a Passive Safety Performance Engineer for the Homologation and Safety Testing Team, you will be part of a global engineering team to help ensure Tesla vehicles are among the safest on the road. Our team is responsible for passive safety evaluations worldwide for both homologation and consumer rating organizations. We conduct testing, perform analysis, and support design decisions to meet Tesla internal safety targets. Successful engineers in this role will be able to critically evaluate vehicle safety attributes and analyze simulation and test data against internal targets and requirements. Clear communication of results and analysis are vital for this role, as our team works cross-functionally with many teams in the Tesla Vehicle Engineering organization. This is a critical role for Tesla as you will be a part of a Rockstar global testing team that works tirelessly to develop and validate world-class vehicles in terms of form, function and most importantly, safety for our customers.

What You’ll Do
- Coordinate crash testing activities with our program management team to meet key timelines for product launches and safety rating evaluations
- Conduct crash tests, and other component level safety tests, at our internal testing facilities as well as external laboratories around the world.
- Coordinate with external testing suppliers on objectives, scheduling, budgets, quality, and deliverables for passive safety related testing
- Generate detailed test specifications that can be clearly understood by internal and external laboratory personnel
- Engage with Tesla Vehicle Engineering organization stakeholders to define and develop internal safety targets and requirements
- Work closely with the Tesla Homologation team to comprehend existing and future passive safety requirements for new products and running changes
- Attend and contribute to design reviews for current and future vehicle programs
- Maintain close relationships between design engineers, analysts, program managers for safety related components and systems
- Design and develop detailed and accurate documentation on critical test set-up information and tools
- Contribute to long term safety roadmaps and planning
- Recognize and flag potential risks and opportunities, resolve conflict, initiate resolution and deliver results as efficiently as possible.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent work experience (4+ years)
- 2+ years of relevant experience in vehicle safety or vehicle safety focused graduate program is strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of vehicle safety concepts and analysis tools
- Experience executing, interpreting, and reporting on passive safety testing according to a variety of homologation and ratings protocols (FMVSS, ECE, GB, US NCAP, IIHS, Euro NCAP, CNCAP, C-IASI, KNCAP)
- Ability to manage data sets and properly use analysis tools to evaluate occupant injury performance metrics
- Familiar with automotive safety simulation tools and methods
- Demonstrated ability to execute complex projects with interconnected tasks in parallel, across teams, in a short timeframe, with ability to pivot rapidly
- Experience with agile project management systems and methodologies (including JIRA project setup and execution) as well as scheduling and timeline software tools
- Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with a variety of cultures, in all forms (verbal, calls, texts, emails)
- A positive attitude, high attention to detail, desire to do things right, and a strong passion for saving lives
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15%

Expected Compensation
$80,000 – $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
