The Metal Frameworks team is directly responsible for the Metal APIs used by both internal and external clients to interface with the powerful Apple Silicon GPU on all Apple platforms, from the smallest Apple Watch to the largest Mac Pro and everything in between. The team collaborates closely with GPU driver teams, shader compiler teams, platform OS teams, GPU ecosystem teams, and GPU tooling teams to deliver the overall Metal developer experience, as well as internal client teams wishing to leverage the computational power of the GPU.
Description
The successful candidate is a critical thinker capable of envisioning the optimal way to leverage upcoming GPU features. They can apply their software engineering skills to design and implement clear, flexible APIs to expose these features as well as deliver validation and testing plans that provide strong confidence in the robustness and quality of the implementation. This role is a critical part of building the features and interfaces that enable ever higher fidelity and performance in applications to meet the constantly expanding customer and developer expectations for Apple products. Responsibilities * Design new Metal API to meet the varying requirements of stakeholders inside/outside Apple * Implement Metal software features, delivering robust, maintainable and extendable code * Develop API and/or shader validation to help internal and external developers use Metal features * Extend and improve API testing to ensure correct behavior of new and existing Metal API
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent experience
- Team player with strong communication skills
- Proven experience shipping software written in C, C++ and/or Objective-C programming languages
- Familiarity with GPU programming and/or GPU execution model; or similar accelerators
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing OS, systems, frameworks and/or game middleware software
- Experience designing APIs for a wide variety of clients and use cases
- Familiarity with graphics rendering, compute and/or machine learning technique implementations on GPUs
- Familiarity with optimization and performance analysis of CPU and GPU workloads
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
