Description
Facility Engineering Services, a Burns & McDonnell company, is looking for a Mechanical Utility Engineer to work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, facility alterations and modifications and Capital Equipment installs on a variety of projects in a government manufacturing facility. This opportunity is full-time, Monday through Friday, working day shift at the Kansas City National Security Campus facility in Kansas City, MO. Occasional evening and weekend work is necessary to support construction schedules.
This individual will work with the project team throughout the design and construction of projects, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. Once construction is complete, the Utility Engineer will assist with commissioning, maintenance plans, operational guidance, condition assessments, and recapitalization planning for utility infrastructure equipment. Utility systems include, but are not limited to HVAC, exhaust, hydronic systems, compressed air, and process gases.
- Contribute to the operation and maintenance of any number of facility utility infrastructure systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical design and/or operational-related issues on constructed or to-be-constructed facilities and Capital Equipment installations.
- Perform condition assessments on facility mechanical utility infrastructure equipment and systems and develop recapitalization needs.
- Assist with the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to government manufacturing facilities.
- Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Apply knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
- Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, submittal review and construction specification updates.
- Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for the client.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- U.S Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Security Clearance.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
- 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience preferred. Consulting preferred.
- Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.
- Knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
