Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to help industrialize our cell manufacturing lines to enable fast and efficient deployment at scale worldwide.
The individual will have a solid understanding of the complexities of fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, and thermodynamics. The candidate will ideally possess knowledge of industrial / factory HVAC system design, using this to integrate manufacturing equipment and factory systems into one cohesive package. The candidate will be the subject matter expert on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and will advise manufacturing engineers on how to optimize tool designs to meet product requirements. This ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits and make meaningful impacts in a demanding, fast-paced, and exciting environment.
What You’ll Do
- Lead development activities in computational fluid dynamics modeling and analysis for cell manufacturing processes, tool design, and factory space conditioning (HVAC)
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to drive through the conceptual design, optimization, pilot test, factory acceptable test, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing tools and processes
- Develop mechanical system design concepts, utility locations, loads, and system specifications during Conceptual design / Feasibility study phase
- Review / approve factory mechanical system design (airflow diagrams, schematics, P&ID’s, etc.)
- Liaise with local factory engineering teams and regulatory bodies to understand local codes and apply to manufacturing equipment design
What You’ll Bring
- Master’s Degree or PhD in physics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of thermal and fluid modeling experience
- Solid understanding of numerical simulation techniques, CFD/FEA modeling, DOE and optimization algorithms of highly convoluted muti-physics, muti-scale systems
- Skilled with CFD software such as STAR CCM+, Fluent, Comsol, etc.
- Field experience with analytical instrument installation, troubleshooting and commissioning
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Well organized with meticulous attention to details
