Position Summary – Mechanical and Plumbing Estimator
This role participates in all aspects of the preconstruction/estimating/bid process for MP systems. This incorporates review of plans/specs to soliciting/negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers through completion of bid/estimating effort, including closeout. The estimator performs Trade Partner scoping, pricing, quantity take-offs, and bidding of commercial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop/document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities, applying these assumptions to takeoff tasks
- Perform quantity take-off and pricing of mechanical, plumbing and process piping estimates
- Solicit subcontractors during the bidding process
- Communicate with project leads to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements
- Participate in internal estimate review process and assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation
- Collect/organize all bid information for input into historical cost database platform
- Conduct reviews of milestone documents to identify changes in work scope and develop pricing of value alternative opportunities
- Assist field operations with change order pricing
- Maintain current, working knowledge of MP codes
- Prepare scopes of work for subcontracts and suppliers and coordinate mechanical scopes of work with architectural/structural/electrical scope
- Prepare budget comparisons between current/previous estimates
- Utilize current technology to enhance provided services on hard bid and negotiated projects
- Develop/maintain relationships with internal clients and subcontractors/vendors, occasionally attending industry events to represent McCarthy
- Attends industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.

Skills & Qualifications
- General knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and/or special systems
- 5+ years experience in preconstruction or estimating and/or Bachelor’s degree/certification in related field preferred
- General knowledge of construction principles/process
- Proven experience estimating large projects preferred
- Construction project management experience preferred
- General knowledge of different contractual delivery methods (negotiated/hard bids, design assist, GMP processes)
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
