About the Role & Program
KABC-TV (ABC7) is an ABC owned television station (OTV), located in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. Weekly, our team at ABC7 produces over sixty-three hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns! ABC7 Los Angeles has the top TV news website and app in the LA market, and we have the largest social media following of any station in the entire country.
The internship program is designed to provide you with an educational experience that complements your academic studies. You will have an opportunity to participate in developmental programming and contribute to daily operations of a major market television station! We’re looking for an intern for our digital team, based in our Glendale newsroom.
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 to early June 2025.
What You Will Do
- Write and post digital news articles from various sources such as wires, raw info, etc.
- Rework TV news scripts for digital presentation
- Post to social media including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X, formerly known as Twitter
- Edit and post original video and newscast packages
- Coordinate coverage with digital producers and assist with live-streaming breaking news and events
- Assist with overall editorial maintenance of ABC7 digital assets including abc7.com
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience (academic or internship) in digital media and/or journalism (broadcast/print/digital)
- Experience with AP Style
- Experience using Microsoft Word
- Familiarity with social media platforms
- High attention to detail and experience multitasking in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in and knowledge of using social media platforms to post content
- Experience using Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Slack
- Previous coursework in producing, writing, or editing
Education
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
- Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year or recently graduated within the past 6 months preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
- Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
- The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 through early June 2025
- Fully available to work 40 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor and could include nights and/or weekends)
- Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Glendale, California area
- Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
The pay rate for this role in California is $17.28 per hour.
