The iPad hardware team is looking for experienced hardware and signal integrity engineers who are motivated by the opportunity to take on big challenges. Our team of system electrical engineers own entire products from concept definition through shipping to customers. We sit at the center of Apple’s wider engineering team, working collaboratively with mechanical engineering, software, silicon engineering and other module teams such as wireless, battery, camera, sensing, display, and factory test.
Description
This is a unique hardware design position that starts at product concept and continues all the way through to mass production. You will be at the center of iPad product development with a critical impact on overall design. Day to day tasks involve electrical design, simulation, bringup, debug, and validation for iPads. Routine responsibilities also include factory build support, and working with multi-functional technology teams in a fast-paced environment. There will be opportunities for international travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience designing consumer electronics and/or embedded systems with focus on high speed signal integrity.
- Strong EE fundamentals (analog and digital design, signal/power integrity, etc)
- Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Comfortable in a lab environment using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of system level high speed Serdes design and analysis including understanding of transmitter and receiver equalization methods (including FFE, CTLE, DFE), CDR behaviors and modeling, link training algorithms and eye margining tools
- Experience performing physical layer compliance testing of PCIe, USB, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt interfaces
- Familiarity with lab equipment, such as: VNA, TDR, real-time scope, spectrum analyzer, etc
- Strong fundamentals in 3D/2D EM simulation tools and transmission line theory
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, bring-up, debug and validation
- Schematic capture and rigid/flexible PCB layout
- Ability to analyze solutions and make system design trade-offs
- Demonstrated ability to understand technology and debug problems at varying levels of abstraction, from the system-level down to the silicon/transistor level
- Use of scripting languages to assist with hardware development, and data analysis
