What to Expect

Tesla’s Battery Materials Team is looking for a highly motivated individual to be the Instrumentation Specialist for a novel battery chemical plant near Corpus Christi, TX.  As the Instrumentation Specialist, you will interface closely with the Project and Operations teams to develop and implement instrumentation commissioning plans while also building out equipment lifecycle management programs that you will implement as we transition into the core maintenance & reliability organization post startup.

What You’ll Do

• Provide expert level instrumentation support for a variety of instrumentation and low-voltage equipment across the site, such as field instrumentation for process measurement (pressure, temperature, flow, composition), safety instrumented systems, PLCs, machinery controls and protective systems, and other industrial equipment <480V.
• Work with the project team and vendor commissioning personnel to ensure assets deliver expected performance in alignment with project schedule.
• Support design reviews as required (i.e., HAZOP, P&ID reviews, 3-D model reviews, etc.) ensuring the facility is constructed with suitable maintainability and reliability premises.
• Work with the Project and Process Design teams to ensure that an appropriate stock of spare parts is provisioned, and management systems are populated with required equipment data
• Develop equipment specific expertise through a strong collaboration with vendors and third-party suppliers and serve as the subject matter expert for the Manufacturing Organization post startup.
• Leverage expertise to develop and deliver equipment specific training as needed for Operations and Maintenance personnel.
• Lead the development and implementation of preventative maintenance procedures, work practices, operator rounds, & equipment strategies to enable efficient life-cycle management of plant assets post-startup.
• Provide break-in technical oversight as needed to resolve instrumentation issues.
• Support base maintenance, turnaround, and capital planning as subject matter expert

What You’ll Bring

• Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of instrumentation fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems.  
• 10+ years as an I&C Technician/Specialist in a chemical process design or production environment, with demonstrated experience in the execution of controls projects from concept development through commissioning and ramp-up.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques, performance analysis, and the ability to solve problems in the field.
• Experience leading teams of Instrument Technicians, inclusive of training and professional development
• Knowledge of safety system hardware, software architecture, and transmission systems and familiarity with SIS software and hardware platforms from major vendors (Schneider-Electric, Honeywell, HIMA, etc.)
• Expert acumen in conducting RCFAs and developing/implementing effective solutions.
• Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours.
• Ability to communicate clearly and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, trade experts, as well as executives.
