What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated, “hands-on” individual to join our Mechanical Assembly Team for the assembly of a new generation of high speed, automated manufacturing equipment. The role includes interpreting mechanical drawings and pneumatic schematics, mechanical assembly of machine components, machining of parts, machine mechanical start-up, testing and debug and some travel for machine installation and commissioning support.
This is a full-time position. Work hours during normal shifts is 7:00am-3:30pm. When the shop is running mandatory overtime, hours are from 6:00am-4:30pm. Hours at other locations may vary depending on their hours of operation.
What You’ll Do
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings including assembly drawings and detail component drawings, assembly of precision machine components with some machining of parts (milling and turning) as required for assembly of custom engineered automated machinery.
- Mechanical systems testing and debug, systems commissioning, installation and troubleshooting of machines on-site.
- Assemble and install equipment at other Tesla locations (up to 40% of the time).
- Interface with project team (i.e. Controls Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Assemblers, Project Manager, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and debug(i.e. diagnoses trouble or defects, determines corrective action and repairs system).
- Perform system checkout and assists in automation systems startups for service installed jobs.
- Provide status updates to management on assigned projects
- Other duties may be assigned to support the needs of the business
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of proven experience in assembly of custom automated machinery.
- Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings, mechanical drawings, and pneumatic schematics.
- Familiar with basic hand tools.
- Familiar with basic measuring tools (Vernier, micrometers, height gauge etc.) to tolerances of .001”.
- Familiar with machine shop equipment (lathe / mill / surface grinder).
- Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues, report, repair and/or correct the issues with minimal supervision.
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at other Tesla locations.
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Employees must provide their own basic set of hand tools.
- Familiarity with machine shop equipment (e.g. mill machine, drill press, lathe, etc.).
- Very strong analytical and troubleshooting skills of mechanical systems
