Building and integrating complex components, working with cross-functional engineering teams, and making devices that live up to high expectations. This role requires an engineer who is not afraid to take on challenges, and knows how to balance innovation with practicality. You will work with members of the cross-functional engineering team to define and implement custom hardware that supports and drives our prototype platforms and instruments. You will be expected to reduce high level feature requests to practical and implementable hardware designs, while understanding and balancing implementation tradeoffs.
Description
As an IC Design Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities: Work with cross-functional partners to identify key system requirements and negotiate their values Extract key electronics requirements from the system requirements Assist with planning circuit architecture exploration and custom test silicon development roadmap Develop circuit architectures that meet electronics requirements and validate key performance metrics Design, tape out, bring up, and verify custom test ICs that implement circuit architectures Collaborate with Apple teams to develop custom IC chipset for evaluation and use in systems
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in EE or related field
- Experience with schematic and layout of analog/mixed-signal components in ASICs
- Experience with Verilog-A/MS, MATLAB, Simulink, etc.
- Experience with bringup, testing, and debug of custom ICs
- Experience with standard lab equipment(e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers)
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of post-undergraduate experience in electrical engineering.
- Familiarity with schematic and layout design of high precision, low power analog/mixed-signal components in deep sub-micron process technologies
- Experience developing behavioral system models for complex analog, digital, or mixed-signal architectures
- Familiarity with silicon processes and high performance layout and mask development techniques
- Experience in test platform development for custom chip bringup and verification
- Experience with analog/mixed-signal design and verification tools (e.g. Spectre, Virtuoso, Innovus, Xcelium, Hspice, Synopsys Design & IC compiler, Primetime, Nanotime, etc.)
- Experience with various finite element modeling or full-wave simulation tools, such as ANSYS HFSS, Q3D, SiWave, COMSOL
- Strong debugging and analytical skills
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $165,500 and $293,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
