The Power global practice is seeking to hire a Project Development Manager who will be responsible for the leadership and management of strategic project developments for the Gas & Heavy Industrial Business Line. This person will help to bridge the gap between pre-conceptual consulting services to project implementation and execution. This role will utilize consulting type services to develop practical solutions and projects that meet Power’s customers’ goals and objectives. This includes supporting the development of projects for PWR customers, creating and supporting enterprise accounts, developing creative solutions that support PWR’s business strategies, collaborating with preconstruction teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission. The individual will also lead this team in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.
This position is responsible for the direction and leadership of the Development Section within the Power Global Practice. Specific objectives and responsibilities include:
- Responsible for project development & advancement by growing and expanding the business through owning and managing early project identification, preliminary engineering, layouts, preliminary pricing, project cost tracking, cost and definition development for projects.
- Project work includes consulting and advising clients on project contract approaches, technology evaluations, and development strategies.
- Identifying the strategy for pre-positioning on projects for the Gas & Heavy Industrial business line.
- Develop and support a healthy portfolio of projects for PWR inclusive of a variety of execution models.
- Develop and foster a proactive approach to Client Strategic Project advancement, market development, client evolution, technical/regulatory/legislative knowledge & experience.
- Focus on client/customer development in rapidly evolving marketplace. Early consulting type focus w/ the end goal being development of executable projects
- Create pathway and career development & growth opportunity for non-execution/production focused people (retain & attract talent)
- Support and work closely with Gas & Heavy Industrial Leadership, Pre-Construction Director, Director of Sales, and Engineering Manager.
- Work with CDB Pre-Construction Execution, Burns & McDonnell Constructors, AZCO, and subcontractors in order to understand installation rates, efficient execution, and pricing for our major business lines.
- Manage initiatives for Objectives and Key Results for business strategic goals across PWR, including regional offices.
- Provide leadership, development and guidance to the regional offices for supporting strategic project development.
Areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by senior management:
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Review, implement and achieve business plans across PWR, including the regional offices.
- Support business development efforts in identification, vetting, and pre-positioning of prospective projects and clients.
- Liaise between regional offices and applicable corporate initiatives.
- Promote and manage internal relationships to establish guidelines and executable plans for conducting business.
- Prepare and implement plans to support and develop identified strategies, for furthering development of the business.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain high performing employee-owners for the strategic project development engineering team.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for direct reports.
- Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes, and goals of the organization.
- Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
- Support MacCulture principles.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, environmental, or other engineering discipline from accredited program.
- Minimum 7 years related professional experience in engineering design (conceptual or detailed) and/or project management with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Power industry preferred.
- Experience must include experience related to project scope definition, scoping studies, technical development, EPC bidding, and capital cost estimating of Power related projects.
- Applicant must have a strong understanding of thermodynamic principles related to the Power industry. Previous management experience is preferable.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Candidates must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A professional engineer license is required.
- Position requires 20-50% travel.
