What to Expect
As a Tesla Equipment Engineering Technician will demonstrate the ability to understand and troubleshoot equipment and processes related to manual, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems. The candidate will take directives from Equipment Maintenance-Engineering and collaborate with all cross-functional Manufacturing and Production Operations to have a technical understanding of process-procedures, equipment, and tools, all while keeping equipment and product quality and safety as the highest priority. The individual must be able to comprehend and execute tasks related to new product launches and aging line sustainment processes in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
- Display a positive attitude and standardized work practices with strong work ethic that reflects the mission, philosophy, and goals of Tesla
- Work with Equipment Maintenance and engineering teams in troubleshooting breakdowns and critical equipment failures; diagnose, test, and repair components, circuits, assemblies, and full systems as required
- Work with Engineers to modify, improve, update, sustain, and integrate new and current manufacturing equipment, in line with direction of value-added activities and priorities
- Independently install hardware, fixtures, jigs, and other various mechanical equipment using electrical and mechanical drawings
- Fabricate mounting brackets, adapters, or weldments with common to advanced machine shop power tools – machining, fabrication, or welding backgrounds highly desired
- Update, improve, or create electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic diagrams from new, or existing equipment using current drafting and GD&T knowledge – experience using CAD/CAM, AutoCAD, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks or other CAD system is highly desired
- Identify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
- Maintain tool and spare part BOMs and ensure proper part availability
- Formulate and update Preventative Maintenance documentation
- Support the development of new and updated manufacturing instructions
- Read electronic schematics, mechanical drawings, or work from written/verbal instructions using little or no formally released documentation to provide troubleshooting support to production and develop tooling or test equipment
- Navigate computer systems and software necessary to perform test using programs such as Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel. LabView, Python, MySQL, Solidworks, CATIA, Altium, JIRA, Flux a plus
- Collaborate with various teams and engineers by providing detailed reports and observations
- Support various teams and engineers to improve quality, yield, and throughput of product
- Support other projects as needed by management as business needs change
What You’ll Bring
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint & Word
- Able to interpret process flow diagrams and engineering drawings (Mechanical & Electrical)
- Familiar and comfortable with hand tools and some power tools. Knowledge of machine shop practices a plus
- Experience with benchtop electronics equipment: DMM, Oscilloscope, Voltage Supplies a plus
- Familiarity with various PLC Logic suites and programming, Solidworks or equivalent modeling software, SQL, MySQL, EPlan a plus
- Self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment as an individual or with a team; able to manage multiple tasks with sensitive time frames or quickly shift focus due to company dynamics and directives
- Ability to lift-up to 50 pounds as needed and/or stand/walk on feet for long durations
- Bachelors, Associates or Certifications in engineering, engineering technology, and/or demonstrated equivalence in work experience associated with the role
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal

Expected Compensation
$18.00 – $50.00/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
