What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a dynamic Environmental Coordinator to join the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Team. The Environmental Coordinator provides daily support to the Environmental Operations Team at Tesla’s Lathrop Campus and manufacturing support facilities by coordinating and overseeing environmental operations to ensure that manufacturing processes are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate takes pride in their analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.
What You’ll Do
- Support the Environmental Operations Supervisor and receive guidance from the Sr. Environmental Engineer to coordinate and oversee daily environmental operations to ensure regulatory compliance and to reduce business risk
- Foster and encourage team commitment for safety and environmental considerations and provide feedback to Environmental Team and Environmental Operations leadership
- Facilitate regular environmental meetings, follow up on action plans to ensure completion, and audit for effectiveness and continuous improvement
- Purchase labels, equipment, tools, office supplies, personal protective equipment, stormwater supplies and spill supplies for the team when needed
- Manage training (RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPER, Safety, etc.) required for technicians and document training rosters for record keeping
- Maintain record keeping requirements as it relates to Environmental Operations and Environmental Programs, including but not limited to manifests, training records, compliance inspections, and regulatory reports
- Provide support for the Environmental Team to navigate and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) and Tesla internal systems and tools
- Support the Environmental Operations by maintaining vendor waste profiles, waste determinations and record keeping
- Support the completion of waste classifications for new waste streams, and coordinating sampling, data analysis, and creation of new vendor waste profiles
- Assist in the completion of regulatory reports for EPA, DTSC, CUPA, and other regulatory agencies as assigned
- Assist in tracking, reporting, and analyzing environmental metrics, including but not limited to hazardous and universal waste disposal records, completion of inspections, spill reports, and waste disposal and operating costs
- Prepare, maintain, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and/or guidance documents to support Environmental technicians with their day-to-day routine and non-routine tasks
- Perform inspections of staging, accumulation, and waste storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance and initiate corrective actions when deficiencies are observed during inspections, and work with responsible owners to close them
- Report and document site inspections through our Tesla Inspection Tools
- Identify areas of improvements to reduce waste generation (waste minimization) and promote cost savings
- Partner with our stakeholders and EHS representatives to Conduct line side audits
- Plan, strategize, and develop Objectives, and Key Results (OKRs/Goals) and ensure timely closure prior to set deadlines; setting goals to track progress, create alignment, and encourage engagement around measurable goals; doing the basics right; reaching and empowering our stakeholders; proactively reducing risk
- Complete internal audits on record keeping requirements, establish areas for improvement, and re-train hazardous waste technicians as needed
- Partner with Environmental Engineers or Specialists on strategic projects and team goals
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental-related discipline preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in an administrative role
- 1-3 years of waste management, hazardous materials, environmental compliance management for industry, or related fields
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in spreadsheet development, word processing, presentation software and database applications)
- Strong experience in maintaining and/or auditing compliance records
- Ability to self-motivate or be a self-starter with limited supervision
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and under a fast-paced working environment
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
- Knowledge of environmental compliance regulations preferred
- Passion for results and completion of goals and priorities is a plus
- Ability to cope with constant change; ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks is a plus
- Ability to move for long periods of time
- Perform in all weather conditions wearing proper personal protective equipment (exposure to loud noises, fumes, and/or toxic chemicals, near moving mechanical parts, warm/cold climates)
- Knowledge of 40 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), Part 273
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
- DOT HAZMAT Certification
- RCRA Certification
- Valid California driver license required
