We’re actively seeking a talented Enterprise Architect to join our Enterprise Architecture Team in Newport Beach, CA. This role is hybrid, with an expectation that the incumbent be on-site for a minimum of 60%.
As Enterprise Architect, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by focusing on the development and execution of the business and IT strategy for the Consumer Markets Division, and architecture for the enterprise. You will fill a new role that closely collaborates with 20+ Architects embedded in technology delivery teams within the Consumer Markets division. Your colleagues will include Enterprise Architects, Solutions Architects, Business Architects, Data Architects, Business Partners, Enterprise Strategy, Innovation Enablement, and fellow technology professionals. Pacific Life have adopted Agile as our predominant development methodology and our technology professionals are measured by delivery of business outcomes.
How you will make an impact:
Supports Formulation of Strategy and Guides Execution
- Actively collaborates with business and leadership stakeholders to develop strategies, using their understanding of financial and economic elements sensitive to digital transformation, to guide investment decisions effectively. Lead analysis of business models, market trends, and the tech industry to ascertain potential impacts on business strategy, architecture, and direction.
- Facilitates alignment between business and IT, linking strategy to execution in a collaborative, supportive, and consultative manner, driving the organization’s digital business strategies while balancing innovation and growth. Translate and guide the execution of business strategy to achieve the organization’s targeted outcomes by leading the development of an enterprise architecture implementation roadmap.
Builds and Maintains Relationships
- Constructs the Enterprise Architecture (EA) value proposition, aiding in establishing the EA practice as an internal management consultancy that provides services and skills to support the development and execution of business strategies. Create a portfolio of consulting services designed to meet the needs of the business and stakeholders, and deliver these in an agile, time-boxed manner in partnership with business unit architects.
- Offers consultative advice tailored to the stakeholder context, assisting business leaders and organizational stakeholders in making informed investment decisions for their next business and operating model, using technology to facilitate this transformation. Lead and facilitate discussions with business leaders, product managers, and product owners, highlighting the risks and implications of product decisions on the business unit and the broader enterprise. Promotes architectural thinking.
Orchestrates the Delivery of Business Outcomes
- Positions the Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice at the intersection of business and IT, ensuring that the EA practice is designed and enabled to formulate, translate, and execute business strategy. Work with business architects and leaders to identify key drivers and targeted business outcomes to establish valuable business context.
- Leads the analysis of the business’s future-state capabilities and the future (and current) IT environment, detecting critical gaps and opportunities and recommending solutions to drive the business towards its targeted outcomes. Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures, and cultural changes necessary to support the enterprise architecture.
Facilitates and Enables Innovation
- Scans emerging technologies and the business ecosystem for major disruptive technology and non-technology trends (trendspotting) that affect business. Focus on architecting products, evolving from projects to products, prioritizing quality attributes over functional requirements, and delaying design decisions until key requirements are well understood.
- Enables and facilitates pilots to create new products and services, integrating the best of these into the organization’s steady-state operations.
Plans and Manages the IT Application Portfolio and Technology Ecosystem
- Maintains the alignment, integration, and coordination of architecture activities across different programs, projects, and products as they evolve over time. They present gap analyses and/or IT investment roadmaps that reflect the status of the existing IT landscape, specifically its ability to contribute to future-state business capabilities around ecosystems and digital platforms.
- Collaborates with architects, delivery teams and infrastructure teams to ensure consistency with the enterprise architecture, leveraging shared technologies, tools, and processes that impact speed to value and time to market, while identifying when modifications to the enterprise architecture are necessary. Promote a digital-first approach, data-driven insights, agility, innovation, decision-making, self-development, and the drive for excellence.
Qualifications you bring:
- 10+ years technical experience in information technology with progressive responsibilities designing, building, and deploying enterprise class business solutions; managing technical debt.
- Passion to remain up to date with prevailing technology standards, industry trends, digital and emerging technologies, architecture principles and practices, and software development best practices.
- Core skillset: strategic thinking, conceptualization, creativity, innovation, demonstrate customer empathy, collaboration, consulting, negotiation and consensus building, pragmatic, effective communicator, facilitator, mentor, thought and technical leadership, change agent, driving decisions, relationship management, and outcome focused.
- 4-year bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field.
What will make you stand out:
- 2+ years in strategic and architecture planning for IT
- 5+ years’ experience in financial services industry is a PLUS but not required.
- Desired skillset: understand the business ecosystem, business model innovation, ability to build a broad network of “trusted partner” business and technology relationships; inspiring, influencing and facilitating change in a matrixed organization.
- 4-year bachelor’s or master’s degree (see Qualifications) PLUS business administration degree or major.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted provides a basis to determine the appropriate offer dependent upon several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, skills, education and pay equity. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.$152,600.00 – $190,700.00 – $267,000.00
