What to Expect
Scaling the production of battery materials, their precursors and closing the loop with recycling encompass some of the greatest engineering challenges of our time. Tesla’s Battery Metals and Materials group is looking for a highly motivated technician to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
You will assist in the day-to-day operation of lab and pilot facilities. You will operate a high-pressure reactor system. You will collect samples, perform data analyses, and serve as a primary contact for one or more pieces of analytic or process equipment. You assist in developing new materials. You will work closely with the program leadership to solve salient material and engineering challenges.
What You’ll Do
- Operation of high-pressure and/or high temperature process equipment (i.e., autoclaves, driers, kilns, mixers).
- Material sampling, analytical testing, and basic data interpretation
- Materials and process development.
- Day-to-day lab or pilot operations: execute tests, operate equipment, maintain orderly working environment.
- Ensure day-to-day process operation is safe, organized, and efficient. This will include assembling production plans, data collection strategies and report-out.
What You’ll Bring
- Quantifiable lab or pilot experience
- A bachelor’s degree in materials science or chemical engineering or materials engineering or chemistry or a related field.
- At least two (2) years of hands-on research (university or commercial) experience in disciplines related to metallurgy or inorganic chemistry or materials science or chemical engineering.
- Tangible experience with materials development and common analytical techniques. Some examples might include: (i.e., PSA, BET, SEM, XRD, ICP, FTIR, UV-VIS, NMR, TEM etc.).
- Must have a strong sense of safety and be able to work either independently or with others.
- Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
