Role description:
The Glass Technology Engineer assists in the creation of glass formulas for Ardagh Glass Packaging North America’s twenty-nine furnaces. This role supports the plants on glass and raw material quality troubleshooting. This position also assists in raw material selection, monitoring, and audits. The Glass Technology Engineer maintains databases of formulas, tests glass, and raw materials, and issues report.
Responsibilities:
- Write and issue cullet, color, and oxide changes as needed
- Provide plant support for all glass-related elements including composition, forming characteristics, color, and defects analysis
- Coordinate glass-related elements between furnace environmental compliance, glass and batch composition, and furnace operations
- Respond to informational requests, solve specific glass problems or operational problems, and assist in the training of plant personnel
- Maintain a reporting system for calculating glass formulas, cost savings, glass quality improvement, and color changes
- Manage and maintain quarterly raw material and glass testing and all reports
- Conduct defect source analysis and communicate issues with vendors, analytical laboratories, plants, and corporate management
Minimum skills/qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other technical-related disciplines
- One year of technical experience in the glass container manufacturing industry
- Must be able to be on call 24/7
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Microsoft Excel
- Prior exposure to PowerBI
- Must be able to travel up to 50%
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Three years of technical experience in the glass container manufacturing industry
- Prior experience working in a glass manufacturing plant within the batch and furnace space
- Prior experience in statistical analysis
- Lean Six Sigma Certification
