JOB SUMMARY
Ad Platforms organization within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Technology is fully responsible for building, enhancing and maintaining the high-performance, distributed, microservice-based Advertising Platform across all of Disney online properties, including Hulu and ESPN+. We build and maintain proprietary technology, ranging from ad serving and ad delivery, campaign management, reporting as well as all the integrations internal and external that come with evolving and maintaining a best-in-class video advertising business.
The Ad Intelligence team is under Ad Platforms and its mission is to transform advertising and Disney’s Ad platform with data and AI across TV and streaming video. We build solutions to measure and optimize every aspect of the advertising life cycle. Our tenant is a strong cross-domain team to deliver E2E solutions covering tech areas ranging from machine learning, big data, microservices to data visualization. Our team is seeking a Director, Software Engineering – Research (Ad Intelligence), who will lead the research and inventory forecasting team. This group focuses on solving the challenging optimization and research problems to accelerate the Disney and Hulu’s ad business. The right person for this role should have extensive experience in machine learning as well as good understanding of ad business. WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead and build the research and inventory forecasting team, develop organizational plans, build healthy team cultures, hire and develop the team.
- Drive ground-breaking innovation and apply state of the art machine learning statistics or analytics in a variety of areas to boost Hulu and Disney in every aspect of advertising, including inventory forecasting, planning, pricing, targeting, decisioning, and efficient ad delivery.
- Lead the team to invent and fast iterate on novel solutions to challenging ad related problems, develop scalable and efficient methods for large scale data analysis and model development. End-to-end delivers the algorithm and model in production to contribute to ad business value.
- Develop shared vision and technology roadmap with partner teams. Build consensus, communicate and collaborate with partner teams on team scope and technology directions.
- Work closely with product management, engineering stakeholders and empower tech teams to deliver outstanding and impactful results. Proactively address and solve cross-team issues, foster teamwork and collaborations.
- Be the owner of Disney’s high-performing systems that support machine learning technology with multiple applications. Enable experimentations and data driven decision making.
WHAT TO BRING
- 12+ years of working experience in machine learning related domains
- 12+ years of team management experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
- Experience in online advertising or larger scale digital marketing
- A track record of talent leading and development for an organization of significant size
- A track record of delivering large-scale, high-quality internet and data products, building technology roadmaps and drive product design, development, launch to success
- Experience and expertise in machine learning, and other AI technologies
- Experience working in agile development environments
- Influencing skills including indirect influence, leading with vision and value
- Good analytical skills, ability to solve complex problems through analytics and data-driven approach to decision making
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Experience with feature store, audience segmentation and MLOps
- Experience with news feed or search ads, and performance-based ads
- Experience with Tensorflow, Kubeflow or Sagemaker
The hiring range for this position in California is $219,268 to $294,140 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
