A Concrete Preconstruction Manager has a strong understanding of self-perform concrete estimating principles. Depending on the specifics of the project, the Concrete Preconstruction Manager will be expected to interact with Design Teams to optimize design for constructability, cost, and schedule. The Concrete Preconstruction Manager will also be looked upon to coordinate with project superintendents and managers to ensure our estimate accurately reflects the project team execution plan. For larger projects the Concrete Preconstruction Manager would be responsible for leading and managing multiple concrete estimators to complete the concrete estimate.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, internal clients, and other key stakeholders, representing McCarthy on the jobsite, in the community and at industry events
- Represent McCarthy at concrete design/coordination meetings, providing any alternative solutions and assist in design decisions
- Develop innovative, accurate estimates consistent with historical costs
- Conducts a thorough and detailed project take-off, assembling all quantities, man hour requirements, etc.
- Meet with the build team for a preliminary sequencing, form work, budget, and logistics plan, etc. Ask questions and brainstorm for the best way to build a complex structure
- Solicits subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewing prequalification requirements, and determining the best qualified subcontractors
- Reviews project plans and specifications and communicates with project stakeholders and internal resources to confirm the scope of the project
- Identifies project-specific risk issues and the potential impact, as well as potential strategies to mitigate those risks
- Lead the internal estimate review meeting
- Identify, price and reconcile design changes, value engineering, and cost trends for incorporation into the project trend log between design milestones
- Establish project budgets and cost codes consistent with standards during the transition to construction. Maintain relationship with the build team and monitor codes for feedback and incorporation into future estimates
- Assist in training and development of preconstruction team members and share “lessons learned” with the team
- Manage and maintain all documentation/deliverables, presenting them to internal team, designers, and project owner in organized manner as needed. Prepare presentation materials as needed (Pour plan, form work plan, 3-D models etc.)
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering, and/or 3-7 years of applicable concrete experience
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required
- Proven experience managing concrete preconstruction processes
- Experience building relationships and working with subcontractors and vendors
- Experience leading successful team ventures, including the development of employees and maintaining relationships with external entities
- Self-starter, highly motivated
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a “value added” approach to preconstruction

For Southern California only: the salary range for this position is: $95,000 – $120,000. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
