Primary Responsibilities
HDR is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Project Manager for immediate employment in the Southern California Region. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in freight railroad/transportation industry design and construction management services. Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in the freight rail/transportation industry with experience with Public Improvements Projects is a strong plus. The primary duties of the Construction Project Manager will include all aspects of client and design team/CM team management through the duration of a project. The candidate would ideally have extensive knowledge of and prior working experience with railroad/transit planning, inspection, construction management services, vertical/horizonal alignments, special trackwork, grading, culvert modifications, bridges, grade crossings, and grade separations.
More specific duties include coordinating the planning and assembly of plans, specifications, and construction estimate packages. Additionally, this person will be viewed as a key individual to serve as a high-level point of contact between the client and HDR. Also, the individual will be a key player in the continued growth of HDR’s construction management services; wherein, travel to specific SoCal areas for on-going and upcoming projects will be required to support Construction Management and Resident Engineering level services alongside support of future HDR inspector/coordinators. You must be comfortable with being viewed as a technical expert with recognized authority that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity while planning and developing projects or design/construction activities which have significant impact on major company programs. You must also be able to plan, organize, and supervise work of medium to large numbers of professional staff and technicians both in the office and in the field.
In the role of Civil Construction Project Manager, we’ll count on you to:
• Plan, schedule and coordinate construction procurements, and supervise field construction activities involving general construction and/or trade subcontractors
• Take responsibility for budget, schedule, quality and safety throughout such activities, utilizing company resources for guidance and support
• Maintain accurate daily record of construction site activity and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status
• Coordinate with other project team groups such as design, procurement and accounting
• Work on small projects, or as support to more-senior staff on larger, more complex projects
• Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• 10+ years’ experience in engineering and managing design teams and/or field teams of varying complex multi-disciplinary projects
• PE (or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months)
• Skilled in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Computer literate with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
• Highly motivated to successfully interact with clients, the public, and team members
• Demonstrated ability to lead a construction management team of inspector/coordinators
• Demonstrated ability to provide resident engineering level services
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be legally able to work in the United States of America
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Engineering licensure in the State of CA (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
• Software: AutoCAD and Microstation Inroads
• Experience with topographic field surveying (GPS and/or Total Station)
• California SWPPP QSP Certificate (QSD, preferred)
• Familiarity with local freight rail client’s design manuals for public projects
• Expertise with local freight rail client’s guidelines, policies, and practices for construction managements services (from pre-construction through project close-out)

The expected compensation range for this position is $121,394.00 to $173,420.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
