Are you interested in defining possible and being a part of something that is performed only by a very small, select group of people? Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Chemist/ Lab Product Testing / Chemical Engineering Technician to join their team in McLean, VA.
While working in a lab can at times be routine, it can also often be quite challenging, requiring quick reaction for selection, testing, and training on a variety of customer products in order to meet deployment deadlines. However, the knowledge gained, and job satisfaction can be extremely rewarding for someone who has the desire to acquire the necessary expertise in a field that can offer a unique hands-on experience.
Essential Functions:
- Work in a chemical laboratory environment collaborating with other members of a customer team to leverage old and new technologies in innovative ways to produce proprietary products that can be distributed worldwide.
- Interact with other team members, customers, outside contractors and agencies to test, develop, train, demo, and deploy products that are both unique and traditional in a challenging world.
- Able to work independently without supervision.
This position can be filled at the Associate Engineer or Engineer Level.
Basic Qualifications Associate Engineer Level:
- US Citizenship and a TS/SCI security clearance with active Polygraph.
- BS degree in Chemistry with an emphasis on organic chemistry with no experience. Note: 4 years of organic chemistry experience can substitute for the degree.
- Comfortable with chemistry lab working environment to perform product familiarization/testing.
- Intermediate to strong computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Comfortable providing detailed instruction/demos/training to individuals/groups typically ranging from one to ten at a time.
- Willing/able to travel locally/domestically for program related discussions with outside contractors/offices.

- US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with active Polygraph.
- BS degree in Chemistry with an emphasis on organic chemistry and 2 years of organic chemistry experience OR a Master’s degree in Chemistry with an emphasis on organic chemistry and 2 years of organic chemistry experience. Note: 4 years of organic chemistry experience can substitute for the degree.
- Comfortable with chemistry lab working environment to perform product familiarization/testing.
- Intermediate to strong computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Comfortable providing detailed instruction/demos/training to individuals/groups typically ranging from one to ten at a time.
- Willing/able to travel locally/domestically for program related discussions with outside contractors/offices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An active TS/SCI clearance with active Polygraph
- Good interpersonal skills
- Willing/able to accommodate fast-breaking/time dependent requirements.
- Some chemical analytical skills.
- Familiarization/knowledge related to paper manufacturing/coating/tableting techniques/methods.
- Some familiarization with traditional/digital photographic methods.
- Software programming skills
Salary Range: $93,500 USD – $140,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $77,300 USD – $115,900 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
