The Cell Development Team is looking for a seasoned Materials Engineer to lead development of polymeric components (e.g., separator, anode/cathode binder) in our Li-ion cells. This is a highly cross-functional role that will require working across upstream cell design, modeling & CAE, supply chain, downstream cell manufacturing and everything in-between.

What You’ll Do

• Lead polymer materials development, qualification, and implementation for Tesla’s Li-ion cells (separator, binder, etc.)
• Collaborate with cell design, modeling, process development and manufacturing engineering teams to guide materials from concept to product implementation
• Design and execute materials, electrode, and cell testing
• Develop and manage collaboration with external partners and suppliers
• Define materials and component requirements and specifications

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent
• Experience with battery materials and cell development
• Expertise in theory and application of electrochemistry
• Strong fundamentals in materials science
• Familiarity with theory, operation, and data interpretation of common analytical equipment (e.g., DSC, FTIR, etc.) and electrochemical tools (EIS, cell cyclers, etc.)

Expected Compensation

$84,000 – $276,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
