DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Bridge Engineer II candidate who is eager to support our Bridge Design group and grow their career with Michael Baker at our Salt Lake City, UT or remote in the western region.
The successful candidate will have the ability to assist and lead the development of roadway design tasks and plans preparation. Teamwork is the cornerstone of our practice, and the candidate will be expected to work well within a multi-disciplined team environment coordinating at times with various task leaders, project managers and office leaders.
In addition to the hands-on roadway design experience on traditional DOT, design-build, and municipal projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to engage multiple career paths including project management, technical management, and/or client service.
We offer training opportunities both locally and nationally, including an online Leadership Institute which provides guidance for engineers to develop their soft skills for career and leadership growth.
The selected Engineer will:
- Work within a team of engineers on design and production of highway construction drawings
- Assist the design team with project bid documents, including preparation of plans, cost estimates, and specifications. Specific civil engineering tasks include horizontal and vertical geometric design, 3D corridor modeling, preparation of design calculations, quantity calculations, construction specifications, and preparation of construction cost estimates.
- Communicate with the Project and Task Managers on key issues and project progress.
- Prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation
- Occasionally visit work site(s) and report findings to other experienced engineers and/or project managers
- Communicate with clients regarding project issues, hold and attend meetings
- Assist with defining scope of work and staff-hour requirements for client proposals
- Assist project managers in ensuring that project/task schedules and budgets are met
- Ensure work efforts for assigned tasks fall within established budgets
- Coordinate with technicians and less experienced engineers and engineers-in-training to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation
- Maintain knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training
- Mentor junior staff in the areas of design standards, design calculations, and design software use
- Perform other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited University or College
- Professional Engineer’s License in UT or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- Minimum 53+ years of engineering experience including bridges and related structures
- A basic knowledge of Federal Aid and UTDOT design standards, practices, and procedures
- Experience on roadway design and plans preparation for UTDOT preferred
- Experience with 3D modeling, Bentley InRoads or OpenRoads) or MicroStation
- Strong analytical, conceptual, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
- Ability to self-motivate and productively work with limited supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office; PDF manipulation (Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
COMPENSATION
The compensation amount for this position is $75,000-$99,000 and will be dependent upon the candidate’s work experience and skill set.
