What to Expect

Tesla’s Austin, Tx Die Shop is seeking a skilled and highly motivated CNC Machinist to join the team and contribute to our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. As a CNC Machinist you are responsible for machining the most complex components of the dies and working with engineers and NC programmers to improve die production and designs from a machining standpoint. 

What You’ll Do

• Operate 5-axis CNC Mills in a low-volume / high-mix workflow 
• Read operator/process documents and perform setups and operations as described
• Prove out programs on the floor with NC programmers
• Provide feedback to engineers, other machinists and programmers on design and process improvement
• Machine complex components to tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines
• Use various inspection and measurement tools to validate your work
• Tracking and documentation of machining processes and results when necessary

What You’ll Bring

• 8+ years of CNC mill operating experience and 4+ years of 5 axis CNC operating experience on dies (high pressure die casting, stampings, injection molding, etc.), particularly on H13/H11 tool steel
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents and GD&T
• Thorough knowledge in the use of measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore gauges, optical comparator, etc.
• Excellent attention to detail, mathematical skills, and mechanical aptitude
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information
• Flexible with ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company
• Experience with basic shop tools, Heidenhain CNC controls, maintenance maintenance, lathes, Gundrill, Mill-Turn, EDM and/or large format CNC experience
