Tesla is seeking a Staff EHS Specialist to join the Texas Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S) Team. Based at Tesla’s upcoming lithium refining plant in Corpus Christi, Texas and reporting to the Gigafactory Texas Cell and Active Materials EHS Manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to develop and execute environmental, health and safety programs in support of Tesla’s Texas Lithium Refining Operations. Tesla’s Lithium Refining site is currently in design and will be complex, fast-paced, and challenging. The candidate must be comfortable working in an environment with high expectations and tight deadlines. Lithium refining is one of the most intricate and exciting components of Tesla’s battery cell manufacturing supply chain.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable in both a self-sufficient role, as well as one of larger team support and engagement. Ownership of work is extremely important. The candidate should be motivated, agile, have a technical and analytical orientation, and possess strong time and project management skills. What You’ll Do
- Design, establish, and improve the site’s EHS processes and programs from design through operations.
- Actively work as a key Management of Change (MoC) stakeholder on behalf of the Tesla EHS team to ensure that production and facility changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety, and the environment.
- Lead the site Emergency Response Team.
- Partner with other EHS functions (Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Hazardous Waste, Environmental, Ergonomics) to address needs unique to lithium refining.
- Analyze incident trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness, and environmental impact events.
- Facilitate incident investigations from a Learning Teams approach, ensuring that preventative actions address system causes and not just individual behaviors.
- Review equipment and space designs on everything from machine guards to chemical processes and provide feedback on EHS impacts; Industrial Hygiene, Fire Safety, Chemical Safety, Process Safety, Hazardous Materials, NFPA Standards, ANSI/ASTM Standards, etc.
- Ensure regulated material management meets all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coach internal and external stakeholders on best practices and influence engagement to deliver best in sector EHS performance.
- Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Physical Sciences, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- 5-7 years of work experience as an environmental, health or safety professional focusing on reviewing, implementing changes to, and continuously improving EHS processes, preferably in the following industries:
- Lithium or other metal refining
- Battery cell, heavy chemical, oil & gas, semiconductors, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or research and development industries
- Experience leading EHS program development, training, and influencing/managing change.
- Process safety, occupational safety, and environmental compliance in a chemical manufacturing or metal refining environment.
- Proven understanding of process design, process validation, implementing safety by design principles, conducting HAZOP’s and design reviews as well as using risk elimination and retirement methodologies.
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.).

Tesla is seeking an experienced lead structural engineer to join the minerals and metals group. This role will include steel and foundation designs of structures used in commercial scale chemical plant. (e.g. pipe racks, skids, platforms, equipment support structures, office buildings etc. ) As a lead engineer you will work closely with various stake holders like engineering contractors, construction group, process engineering, equipment vendors, internal design groups etc. and will lead the structural design scope of the project form design to fabrication / installation and will ultimately hand it over to operations team.
What You’ll Do
- Manage multiple structural design projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases
- Conduct structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, along with the creation of justifying structural calculations
- Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement
- Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work from multiple disciplines/firms
- Define and plan project work scope, schedules, budget, and resource requirements
- Review and approve Engineering firm’s structural models, calculations reports, drawings.

- Prepares a variety of engineering deliverables for multiple or large projects

What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of experience designing steel structures used in industrial plant like pipe rack, skids, process equipment supports, cable tray/piping supports, structural modules for lifting and transportation is preferred.
- Conduct structural analysis on concrete forming systems and generate calculation packages
- Knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) steel manual, American Concrete Institute (ACI) code 318, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7, and International Building Code (IBC)
- Experience with AutoCAD, Naviswork, Revit, Tekla and/or Advanced steel or similar design software
- Understanding of other disciplines such as: mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying
- Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
- Ability to communicate clearly and interface at an executive level within a diverse team
- Ability to uphold the use of standards and escalate issues in a timely fashion
- Desire to do the impossible with a positive and professional “never say die” attitude

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Document Control Specialist. This position’s primarily responsibility is to work with the Operations Manager to help support Cell Materials group. The position will support in the design, planning, implementation, and execution of the documentation infrastructure by providing the team with the necessary information to establish successful document and quality management systems. Role would support processes and documentation from the design phase and transition into operations. The successful candidate will support daily management and maintenance of the document control system for production, maintenance, warehousing, controls, and quality groups within operations. The role will be responsible for ensuring up-to-date equipment documentation, records, procedures, standards, and the quality management system, as well as supporting reporting, and provide training to team members.
What You’ll Do
- Operate as a central contact for all document control issues, support, and ongoing management of the system
- Work with sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with the Tesla document management system
- Process documents and deliverables including, but not limited to: submittals, designs, drawings, calculations and other engineering data
- Maintain critical correspondence (electronic and hard copies when necessary)
- Provide document management support to Cell Materials Operations and Manufacturing teams, ensuring that final and working documents are readily accessible to team members
- Review incoming document transmittals and document register for nonconforming documents. Correct as necessary to ensure the register remains clean and compliant
- Create and manage approval workflow for final procedures, documents, records, and drawings
- Publish weekly reports and logs identifying open workflows, mail items, submittals, and other documents
- Work with team members to ensure proper maintenance and retention of all qualifying documents and information
- Provide training to project resources as part of the on-boarding process, both in person and virtual sessions
- Work with sub-contractors and suppliers during contract closeout to ensure all project documents are received prior to releasing retention payments
- Ensure that document retention and review systems are compliant with internal and external standards, including ISO 9001
