Will lead the core systems products and roadmap for FedEx air and Ocean and conventional brokerage leading team through product management, configuration to defined processes and successful testing, and deployment to the business of the products.
The Freight Forwarding Systems and Engineering Manager key purpose is to lead the product engineering team for core operating systems within the FedEx Logistics Freight Forwarding and Brokerage business (FTN – FedEx Trade Networks) including Cargowise1, Freightos/WebCargo, rate management, reporting and and integration to other applications and 3rd parties.
The position will be a key decision influencer for the core systems roadmap and driving system applications usage, design and configuration of features, simplification and standardization of the core application and systems portfolio to delivery operations capability and drive efficiency and quality through systems usage for the business The role will lead a small global product engineering team and make recommendations to business leaders regarding the core product roadmap and usage of core applications and ensure that best practices are being followed, whilst driving the transformation and modernization of the systems landscape.
This position will initiate, facilitate, and implement projects involving Core Transportation management applications across various teams and stakeholders across the organization in support of the business strategy. The role will take on a leadership position within projects involving key applications, taking accountability for ensuring requirements and projects are well defined delivered on time and within budget constraints, managing resources of the product engineering team and aligning priorities of demand and capacity, as well as providing SME representation to other key stakeholders within the project. The role will Lead, mentor and coach a group of talented engineers, and help them to progress in their careers, ensuring adherence to standard Safe Agile practices, enhancing industry knowledge and best practices and providing subject matter expertise where required while driving and monitoring performance within the team.
The role will have a high level of industry freight forwarding experience and systems operations knowledge. This knowledge is used to effectively bridge the gap between the technology and operational layers of the business and act as a conduit of information into the technology and development teams.
- The Freight Forwarding systems and Engineering Manager takes responsibility for core Freight forwarding systems across Fedex trade networks Air and Ocean forwarding and brokerage globally.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Operations and Transportation / Brokerage Product Leaders to fully understand the Business process requirements and concerns of the day-to-day operations and translate these into usable core products and configurations
- Work with Product, operations and Process Optimization Teams to identify the system capabilities; design and drive enhancements and process improvements within the application; Drive opportunities for process efficiency utilizing Cargowise Workflow Management, Data integration and utilizing best of breed Automation tools
- Drives core systems development spanning rate management, data integration, reporting and analytics and automation to support business efficiency and data quality
- Lead the Product engineering team in delivery of a standard global Cargowise deployment ensuring consistency and structured ongoing continuous improvement through the legacy migration and maintaining governance of global configuration standards
- Ensures strong engagement and liaison between user, process teams and system developers to ensure the business requirements are fully understood so that standard system activity and processes can be setup to achieve business goals and objectives
- Interact with senior business leaders across various departments and be prepared to present to those leaders as needed on core product development and management
- Lead strategic projects while driving the assigned tasks to completion and track project deliverables leveraging both Agile Safe and Waterfall methodologies
- Drive Master Data Management activity and lead others in support of accurate data management
- Facilitate the development of new system processes including, but not limited to: supplier communications, data standards initiatives, improvement projects, Robotic processing etc.
- Design and maintain new system process diagrams as required to fit newly proposed processes or required business capabilities
- Establish and maintain core systems support model and processes including issue resolution, testing, defect management and product release
- Work closely with Customer Solutions Teams to facilitate/grow business opportunities for customer value add solutions
- Manage and oversee contractual service agreements with key service providers
- Has approx. 8-10 reports and matrix management responsibility
- 3-5 years of Leadership experience leading teams of Engineers/BA’s
- Must have experience in Cargowise 1 systems management and configuration and ideally been part of or lead a Cargowise deployment
- Ideally been part of a systems modernization journey moving from legacy applications to Cargowise 1 or reduced application portfolio and implemented modern standards
- Ideally has experience in data integration and can functionally guide teams in data across integration, reporting and analytics and supporting digital enablement
- Experience in implementation of rate management tools and processes such as Wise rates, Freightos, Portrix, Cargoguide, or Cargosphere preferred
- Experience in SAFE Agile and Waterfall development methodologies preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Information Systems or an IT related field.
- Basic understanding of PL/SQL preferred
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
