PV/PW Field Installation Support Technicians are experts in Tesla’s residential products: retrofit PV and Powerwall. This field-based role is focused on supporting all installations to drive efficiencies, implement new process and products, and identify and root cause any failure points and inefficiencies through data collection to improve Tesla’s standards and operating procedure.
As an installation expert, Technicians will support crews throughout installation, targeting lowest performing crews providing proactive, in-person, consulting, and observational support. The technician will assist with field testing, trial plans, pilots, and implementation of new products and processes.
They will be expected to work with various teams throughout Tesla Energy assisting with but not limited to: VIP projects, Engineering Pilots, Escalation assistance, Subject Matter Experts for projects, and Operational special requests.
- Work cooperatively with crews on residential Solar Roof installations; Field Based role.
- Ensure all teams working with you have correct material for a successful job completion.
- Escalate issues and employment issues regarding job site specific
- Document job specific details and use these to help improve product across all departments
- Help pilot new installation methods and material with the crew
- Maintain a Tesla standard for all crews to have a clean jobsite
- Deliver exceptional customer experience at each installation you are working on
- Attend new hire training as well as ongoing training sessions and weekly team meetings on new products, installation methodology and safety.
- Layout and assist in the assembly of solar modules / array, mounting hardware, and electrical equipment.
- Electrical wiring of solar array/system (AC and DC).

- Capable of standing for long stretches of time and working at heights (on rooftops, climb ladders and stairs).
- Ability to safely handle tools and materials commonly found in construction and solar industries, such as: ladders, inverters, solar panels, panel boards and other similar electrical equipment, lumber, roofing materials, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including but not limited to peers and customers.
- Travel is mandatory and will vary dependent on business need.
- Employees must be able to travel for up to 2 weeks at a time, several times a year, to various locations within the US.
- Valid Driver’s License as worker will need to be at multiple sites a day

The New Programs Engineering team works at the front end of the design and development cycle by studying, simulating, building, and proving successful Tesla’s future vehicle concepts. - Concept Development – Brainstorm and collaborate with engineers, designers, and users in creating new solutions for automotive applications. Develop the designs using CAD and FEA and build your designs to prove them out and refine them over time.
- Prototyping – Rapidly design and manufacture one off prototypes and integrated vehicles from the ground up on tight time frames with a talented group of mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers.
- Own vehicle subsystems for prototype and mule builds from napkin sketch through to integrated 3D design, then build the system into a vehicle and test its functions.

- Perform required preventive maintenance activities on commercial inverters to maintain warranty coverage
- Respond to corrective maintenance cases on commercial solar PV, commercial energy storage systems, vehicle charging stations and updating online case logs accurately
- Attend and demonstrate outstanding performance at multiple inverter training schools
- Work closely with members of the Operations Engineering Systems Reliability team to respond to open case directions and provide data where requested
- Report writing, where required, to comply with deliverables in commercial O&M contracts
- Respond to customers’ concerns with the performance or functionality of their system
- Ensure the vehicle, tooling, electronics, software, and company issued property are well-kept
- Electrical trades experience within troubleshooting power electronics and low voltage controls
- Previous experience working with power/hand tools, electrical equipment, isolation meters and multimeters
- Experience navigating numerous computer applications and technology independently
- Ability to travel to numerous sites daily and travel up to 2 weeks at a time with short notice
- Flexibility to work on weekends and/or overtime along with overnight stay to support Tesla’s critical mission
- Must be able to work at great heights, work in extreme environments, perform prolonged periods of repetitious duties, lift at least 50 pounds frequently

The Role:
