Job Description
This position serves as an on-call position used to fill in for regular library staff and projects. If a Library Substitute cannot be reached for service, then the Library will call another substitute to assist. The Library Substitute is an “at will’ employee and is subject to applicable city policies, library policies and library procedures.
Position could be scheduled to work at any library facility as well as off-site locations.
Part-time 5 hours/week guarantee
Examples Of Duties
- Provides direct high quality customer service to customers of all ages at the reference desk and customer service desk in person and answering the phone.
- Responsible for handling duties such as library card registration, placing request for books and information, searching and retrieving of materials, checking in and out materials, providing ready reference, reader’s advisory and assisting with computer trouble shooting.
- Responsible for learning and applying DPL policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records and cash handling.
- Ability to work office equipment. (i.e. Fax, copier)
- Works various shifts as needed.
- Does not supervise or evaluate other substitutes or other library employees.
- Relays customer concerns to staff and/or Library Director in a timely manner.
- Works cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers and supervisors.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association library school and knowledge of public libraries and/or library experience preferred but not required. Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience.

Job Description
Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty providing technical information pertaining to contractor licensing, land use and zoning, occupancy requirements, and structural and non-structural code compliance. Provides site plan and building plan minimum requirements, permit application, permit processing and fee collection. Receives, organizes and dispatches Field service requests. Maintains permanent record of permits and inspection activities.
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the written exam to be administered on June 1, 2023. Those passing the written exam with a 70% or higher will be invited to interview on June 9, 2023. Both components will be graded and applicants must pass each component with a 70% or higher to be eligible to move forward in the process.

Examples Of Duties
Reviews plans and specifications for code compliance and permit approval, Issues permits and collects fees; assures completeness and accuracy of submitted information, routes applications and plans from customer to appropriate individual or agency for inter-office review and permit authorization; provides detailed technical information for zoning setback and land use; provides detailed building and mechanical code related information and handles general code and construction inquires. Investigates and resolves complaints.
Receives customers at public counter. Interprets municipal codes, research property description and assists in site planning. Provides backup services for excavation permits, erosion control permits and traffic obstruction permits. Retrieves records information and produces internal and external reports as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in construction management preferred or completion of an Associates Degree with 3 years experience in construction management, architectural design or environmental sciences.
- Knowledge of design principles and building codes.
- Requires the ability to perform computerized operations based on Windows office environment.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must posses and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout duration of employment. Requires certification as a Permit Technician by the International Code Council within one year of employment.

Job Description
Under general supervision operates bus on regularly scheduled bus routes throughout the City of Davenport; on-the-job training is provided to successfully obtain a CDL license with proper endorsements.

New hires starting employment in possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements will receive a $500 bonus upon completion of 6-month probation and an additional $500 bonus at one-year anniversary of employment.
Operates bus safely through the City of Davenport along designated bus routes in accordance with time schedules; picks up and discharges passengers; collects proper bus fare and deposits into the farebox; issues and receives transfers; ensures safe and prompt arrival at passenger destination.
Maintains order on the bus maintaining good public relations by answering inquiries; providing passengers with information on routes and transfers; safely attends to passengers with disabilities or in need of assistance in a safe and professional manner. Maintains records and completes reports including bus trip sheets for all components of the bus and reports bus and equipment defects; prepares accident reports when necessary.
Inspects inside of bus for condition of passenger area and functioning of safety devices; cleans driver area as needed; Operator may be responsible for fueling buses or vehicles and completed paperwork on fuel and mileage; checks for adequate supplies of farebox necessities, emergency transfers, schedules, and other items needed.
Qualifications- The equivalent of six months of successful work experience in the operation of a vehicle on public thoroughfares.
- Must pass a physical examination and background check as prescribed by the city. All CDL personnel are subject to Federal Transit Authority Random Drug & Alcohol Program.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements within six months of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.
