Description
The Data Center Engineering team is looking for an Automation and Controls Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing systems for monitoring and control of the Data Center electrical and mechanical infrastructure. The systems include Building Automation Systems (BAS) for cooling control, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for electrical monitoring, Power Distribution Control System (PDCS) for electrical MV and generator paralleling controls, Automatic Transfer Controls (ATC) for LV transfer schemes and the underlying facility network. Responsibilities: Design of data center automation and control systems, including generator paralleling controls. The design effort will include development of plans and specifications of the control systems. Updates of the designs based on lessons learned from projects. Development of detailed sequences of operations. Configuration and programming of the systems or oversight of third parties providing the systems. Troubleshooting of controls and monitoring issues, analyzing data and correcting issues. Support emergency response to issues and perform corrective maintenance to maintain the facility’s reliability and availability service level objectives. Optimization of systems. Train Operations personnel. Follow Industry and Apple’s Safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with Data Center Control systems or similar field.
- Understanding of high availability electrical or mechanical systems and their controls.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical system, or mechanical system drawings.
- Proficiency in programming languages and structures compliant with IEC 61131-3, including: Instruction List (IL); Structured Text (ST); Ladder Diagram (LD); and Function Block Diagram (FBD).
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software or Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent job-related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with Data Center Control systems or similar field.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple teams to design, construct and maintain controls solutions to meet business needs while ensuring they meet the required standards.
- Excellent planning and execution skills and an ability to work under pressure with multiple ongoing projects.
- Deep understanding of generator paralleling system controls including soft loading, load add and shedding schemes and automatic transfer schemes.
- Practical knowledge of hardware, configuration, programming and troubleshooting of automation controllers, PLCs, PACs, DCSs, DDCs, including the following platforms: SE Modicon; Emerson PACSystems RX3i; Siemens Simatic S7; Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, ABB B&R X20; DEIF PAC, Opto 22.
- Practical knowledge of generator controllers including the following platforms: Woodward easYgen & LS-5; DEIF AGC.
- Familiarity in programming languages and structures compliant with IEC 61131-3, including Sequential Function Chart (SFC).
- Familiarity with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform.
- Python scripting and programming.
