We currently have an opening in our New York, NY office for one Senior Electrical Lead Engineer in the Buildings and Facilities division. This is an opportunity to experience a truly varied array of electrical design projects which include large infrastructure, ground, underground and air transportation as well as small and large new construction and fit out opportunities.
In this role, you will function as Lead Electrical Engineer on projects, responsible for all aspects of building and facility electrical design, ranging from: field surveys, calculations, computer aided design (CAD), equipment selection, coordination with trades, maintaining client standards and relations, and other fundamentals of engineering and business.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of schematic designs into construction documents
- Provide the design and calculations for power, lighting, and fire alarm systems
- Consider and evaluate intended use and life cycle of electrical systems
- Actively participate in the full project cycle, planning phase through construction close-out
- Develop and coordinate utility service, power generation/storage and distributions schemes
- Apply judgement in the design process and evaluation of solutions
- Maintain the electrical design documentation for projects
- Visit project sites, record construction progress and existing conditions, attend testing events
- Travel will be approximately 5-10% time for intermittent short periods, most being same day
- Apply codes and standards which regulate and guide the industry
- Produce contract documents in the form of drawings and specifications
- Construct electrical system models in SKM, ETAP and EasyPower, calculate and select electrical equipment
- Contribute to the professional growth of others
- Prepare technical and cost proposals in response to client RFP
Qualifications:
- ABET accredited four-year bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering
- A minimum of 11 years of experience in Electrical Engineering Design
- PE is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, to allow you to engage with clients one-on-one
- Proficient in sizing and selection of power generation, power storage and power distribution equipment
- Have solid grasp of motor controls, VFD controls, SWGR controls, and SCADA
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices for grounding, lightning protections, SPD selection and settings
- Demonstrating effectiveness developing scope and technical details in short amount of time
- Effectively present complex information to a varied group of people
- Be capable of solving problems riddled with unsettled variables and limited information
- Possess a working knowledge of building, electrical and energy codes, and standards
- Willing to undertake a wide variety of electrical tasks, activities, and services
- Working knowledge of relevant industry standards: UL, ANSI, NEMA, NETA, IEEE, TIA etc.
- Proficient in calculations: Conduit Fill, Cable Tray Fill, Voltage Drop, Short Circuit, Lighting, etc.
- Experience with selecting components for design of SCADA & PLC/DCS control system including Panel Layout, Architecture, Configuration, Sizing, & Communication links (Modbus, ENET, etc.)
- Proficient in designing, selecting, and calculating protective relay settings for LV/MV electrical equipment
- Understand how AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Microsoft Word are used to assemble contract documents
- Practical field experience (survey, start up, commissioning, maintenance)
- Experience working as an Electrical Engineer for an established relevant MEP or A/E firm is a plus
