Description
Burns & McDonnell provides wide-ranging A-E services for the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE), and other federal agencies. Our global portfolio of federal work includes projects and programs completed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, National Guard Bureau, Architect of the Capitol, Department of Agriculture, Department of State, Environmental Protection Agency, General Services Administration, NASA, and the Veterans Administration. We also support DOE management and operating contractors at 18 DOE sites. Responsibilities include:
- Supervises the preparation and checks the accuracy of contract documents.
- Incorporates applicable codes, construction techniques and sequences in various projects including all aspects of cross disciplines.
- Supervises and/or performs site observations such as recording and reporting of existing conditions and construction progress.
- Responsible for project cost control.
- Responsible for external communications such as phone calls and preparing correspondence to clients, officials, and contractors as required by various projects.
- Writes reports such as feasibility studies, condition reports and recommendations.
- Performs building code reviews and prepares applications. Responsible for major design decisions, involving spatial, aesthetic elements and detailing of materials.
- Documents the progression of a routine project through correspondence, calculations, memos, etc.
- Follows routine projects through approvals and construction.
- Initiates contact with client and town officials. Exercises professional judgment in areas of contractual liability.
- Makes public presentations. Responsible for accounting of individual project involvement, i.e. scheduling, scope, role and budget.
- Handles problems and questions as they occur during construction.
- Ability to monitor the budget of a task or series of tasks and make necessary adjustments to keep on budget.
- Capable of providing leadership to a team that is performing a sequence of tasks.
- Ability to instill motivation to the team to meet projected milestones and capable of adjusting the procedures to keep the progress on target.
- Maintains good client relations.
- Follows up on qualifying leads as directed.
- Contributes suggestions on business development.
- Sufficient knowledge of marketing to assist in the preparation of proposals and/or presentations.
- Ability to identify and recruit capable candidates for a growing architectural team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited program.
- Minimum 8 years of related experience (12 years preferred). Completion of master’s degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
- Knowledge of estimating project needs and capable of translating them into budget hours and costs.
- Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
- Previous consulting experience preferred.
- California Registered Architect or ability to obtain.
- Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance.

Compensation
$130,000.00-185,000.00 Annually
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
