We are adding Fire Protection Engineers to our team to support work across various markets of Kiewit. Our Engineering organization has a combined staff of more than 1,700 engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve industrial facilities, advanced manufacturing, transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Backed by 140 years of construction experience, our construction-driven engineering focuses on constructability and safety in the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery. Our engineering organization is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of projects across all of North America. As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will be working on a wide variety of projects such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings Industrial Water and Utilities, Power and Infrastructure exposing your career to new challenges and growth opportunities.
LOCATION
This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS, or Minneapolis MN office or possibly near one of our other major Kiewit offices across the US.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide fire protection design and support for complex industrial facilities.
- Perform fire hazard analysis for the site to determine hazards and appropriate active and passive fire protection schemes in conjunction with the requirements of the applicable codes and standards as well as any client requirements.
- Generate calculations to size water supply, fire pumps, and underground pipe sizing.
- Review vendor fire suppression and fire alarm system plans and calculations.
- Review fire barrier and penetration seal requirements for specific hazards.
- Perform life safety reviews for buildings and industrial equipment platforms.
- Develop specifications and manage contracts for fire protection contractors to furnish and install fire protection systems for various projects.
- Collaborate with various team members from various disciplines to ensure complete coordination throughout each project.
- Travel is required (approximately 10% of the time) to meet with clients and/or job site personnel.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure concepts and requirements are fully conveyed to the various team members and clients.
- Responsible and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Familiarity with the International Building and Fire Codes as well as competent knowledge of applicable NFPA standards.
- Working knowledge of fire suppression and fire detection systems and how they interface with various buildings and other disciplines.
- Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with Fire Protection experience or focus, OR if no degree, a minimum of 15+ years of Fire Protection design/construction experience.
- At least 5+ years relevant experience in the industrial industry with some EPC background, performing fire protection design, experience with fire alarm, fire suppression and performing fire life safety reviews for buildings.
- Experience developing specifications and managing contracts for fire protection subs that may work on Kiewits behalf. Able to communicates effectively orally and in writing. Present ideas clearly and in a professional manner.
