What to Expect
Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around May 2024 and continue through the entire Summer term (i.e. through August 2024) or into Fall 2024 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Quality Engineering Internship
- As an intern on Quality Engineering team, you’ll collaborate on mass production cell projects that impact cell quality, manufacturability, safety, cost, and field reliability while working in a cross-functional team throughout the entire product lifecycle and launch into manufacturing. You will assist with design decisions, contribute to specification requirements, and collaborate on cell material and process development projects. You will work closely with Design, Process, Equipment, and Production teams to take battery design changes and new battery designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.
Electrode Quality Internship
- We are looking for a motivated and detail oriented individual to improve product quality through the use DMAIC methodology and collaboration with cross-functional team for Tesla’s electrode manufacturing space. In this role, the intern will be working under the mentorship of a senior engineer on developing and testing processes, improve existing measurement systems, and troubleshooting issues that affect production runtime and quality targets.
Systems Optimization Internship
- The Systems Optimization Team is positioned within Technology R&D to close the loop between product use and software/hardware design. The team uses big-data tools, statistics, physics-based modeling, and optimization to drive continuous improvement of our existing products through software updates, and hardware requirements. The Systems Optimization Team is looking for determined, eager individuals with strong physics fundamentals and enthusiasm for software development and big-data analysis. The intern will work with team members to further develop “trip planner”, an in-house routing engine that optimally navigates customers through the supercharging network, while balancing congestion, to enable industry leading road-trip experience.
Systems Engineering Internship
- We are looking for a System Engineering Intern who will focus on cell manufacturing equipment characterization. You will work hands-on with components and systems to confirm that they meet functional and process requirements. You will work with a cross-functional team to characterize equipment operation window, and establish equipment setups and methodologies with procedural rigor that allow to reliably identify product weaknesses, ensuring methods conform to industry best practice.
Quality Internship
- Improve incoming, in process and outgoing quality control tasks to ensure manufacturing capability and product reliability. Help evaluate suspect materials while working closely with internal and external teams to quickly identify and resolve cell-related issues. Participate in Root Cause analysis of known Issues to the Final product. Run trials to generate data to support material/process improvement activities. Perform GR&R evaluations and qualification of inspection equipment.
Quality Inspection Mechanical Design Engineering Intern
- The Quality Operation team in Cell Manufacturing group at Gigafactory Texas is responsible to conduct quality inspection operations for all incoming purchased part inspection as Incoming Quality Control (IQC), the sampled products from the production lines as In Process Quality Control (IPQC) and completed parts as Outgoing Quality Control (OQC). Mechanical Design Engineering intern supports inspection process improvements on throughput and GR&R by designing, fabricating and deploying inspection fixtures to Quality Operation team.
Quality and Process Systems, Industrial Engineer Intern
- Tesla is looking for a highly motivated engineer, experienced with Industrial Engineering methodologies, to drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Cell Manufacturing team at Gigafactory Texas. As a Senior Industrial Engineer, you will support a world-class manufacturing program from the ground up. You will initiate and energize the corrective action and continuous improvement culture at Gigafactory Texas to the highest levels of performance in safety, quality, cost, and growth. Working from within the Quality Systems team, this role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Operations teams.
Supplier Industrialization Engineering Internship
- Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. This position will be responsible for sustaining and improving supplier product quality using collaborative efforts to accomplish this task. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla’s production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.
What You’ll Bring
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
Please note that the following skills listed below are suggestions and not strict prerequisites.
Systems Optimization Internship
- Experience or excitement for developing software in a collaborative environment
- High proficiency in Python with experience C/C++, MySQL preferred
Systems Engineering Internship
- Experience of working with various sensor types (force sensors, load cells, thermocouples, accelerometers, etc.) and actuators (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, etc.)
- Good experience in hardware and software development in data acquisition, signal processing, and control system
- Good knowledge in system modeling, filter design and machine learning algorithms
- Experience in equipment health monitoring and fault detection in a plus
- Proficiency with statistical analysis, DOE, data analysis software Excel, Mintab and/or JMP
Quality Internship
- Strong technical understanding of distributed systems, ability to learn quickly and establish credibility with engineers
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing data, identifying trends, and influencing decisions on recommended strategies to remedy issues
Quality Inspection Mechanical Design Engineering Intern
- Project management experience
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD preferred)
- Experience with prototyping and fabrication methods (3D Printing and/or CNC machining)
Quality and Process Systems, Industrial Engineer Intern
- Knowledge in OEE, capacity planning, cycle time analysis (Basic MOST) and line balancing
- ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt
- Data visualization experience (e.g Tableau)
- Distinguishing experiences/skills: 2D/3D CAD, lean manufacturing, work measurement, analytics (SQL, Tableau), discrete event simulation, operations research, lean manufacturing, scale manufacturing experience
Supplier Industrialization Engineering Internship
- Experience in Quality Systems a plus: PPAP/APQP processes
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 Standards
- Background in Statistical Process Control, Capability Analysis (Cp, Cpk), MSA, FMEA, Control Plans
- In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection

Expected Compensation
$20.00 – $50.00 + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
