What to Expect
As Tesla continues to vertically integrate our operations, Tesla’s Battery Minerals and Metals group is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – expanding production of cathode materials and cathode raw material refining systems.
As an electrical engineer, you will work closely with the process development and design teams to deploy first-of-a-kind chemical production processes and equipment, designing new processing facilities to produce high purity battery materials, supporting projects from concept through design, install, integration, ramp, and handover to the operations team.
What You’ll Do
- Perform energy audits and complete circuit analyses to predict energy usage and maximum voltage sag for critical loads
- Support design, installation, and operation of low- and medium-voltage equipment
- Prepare engineering specifications for bid invitation, perform bid evaluation, and confirm bid evaluations for purchase
- This position will be field based. Applicant should be comfortable working in an operational manufacturing facility with ongoing construction activity
- Review and audit of Arc Flash and Breaker Coordination studies provided by design team
- Able to provide base cost estimating services within the electrical scope and work with trades to drive value for Tesla
- Complete full electrical design for industrial control system, including power distribution, network design, hardware and cabinet design, and motor control/VFDs. Review and provide written comments on design plans and specifications prepared by others
- Ensure designs meet appropriate electrical codes. Work with external parties to verify compliance with appropriate electrical codes
- Visit construction sites to determine compliance with design intent; report discrepancies, errors, and omissions. Utilize this input to update standards, processes, and procedures
- Establish standards and specifications for installation, modification, quality control, testing, operation, inspection, and maintenance of Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) and high voltage electrical systems according to commissioning standards, NFPA requirements, EPSS engineering principles and safety regulations
- Provide technical and configuration support for the implementation and maintenance of energy systems utilizing tracking techniques and trending software
- Drive root cause analysis on process or asset failures
- Work across sites to determine commonality and implement best practices
- Implement electrical safety programs following OSHA and NFPA 70E guidelines
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar and evidence of exceptional ability
- 4+ years of electrical design experience in industrial manufacturing facilities
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
- Ability to interface with multiple engineering disciplines
- Experience maintaining, repairing, and operating medium voltage equipment, including troubleshooting and working on medium voltage relays
- Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA codes and HAZMAT safety protocols
- Well versed in the National Electrical Code and the International Electrical Testing Association
- Ability to communicate clearly and interface at an executive level
