What to Expect
The Test Systems Engineering Team is an agile hardware testing group working across both Vehicle and Energy programs. The team provides turnkey test solutions working with a range of groups from research and development through to manufacturing test. The team leverages Tesla’s own products and technologies to create innovative test solutions to expedite R&D and validation cycle times, reducing both cost and complexity. These include motor, powertrain and all-wheel drive dynamometers, high-power bidirectional AC and DC sources, grid simulators, data acquisition, and advanced software control systems. This function operates at the heart of Tesla’s core technologies.
In this role, you will develop and integrate hardware and software test solutions, working with internal teams to develop test specifications, interface technologies, undertaking electrical and PCB design, safety systems, and signal conditioning for data acquisition. You will work directly with the Test Systems Engineering group, comprised of mechanical, electrical and software design, as well as the build and test operations teams.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, prototype, and integrate end to end hardware and software test solutions for internal R&D projects
- Work with ME, EE, SW and FW teams to ensure seamless integration with new prototype hardware
- Work with Technicians to build protypes, install new systems, and execute tests on existing tests stations
- Perform Root Cause Analysis on equipment and test article failures
- Participate in design reviews for new internal test equipment
- Commissioning and debug new test equipment
- Provide operational documentation for new equipment
What You’ll Bring
- BS or higher in EE, CE, ME, or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical engineering experience
- Experience with a multitude of laboratory test equipment
- Strong knowledge of high voltage power electronic systems
- Strong knowledge dynamometers, power systems and switchgear components
- Experience with LabVIEW and National Instruments Data Acquisition Hardware
- Experience with embedded computing (microcontrollers, DSPs and PLCs)
- Experience in PCB design (Altium or equivalent)
- Experience with test automation and data analysis in Python
- Data acquisition tools ranging from oscilloscopes and power analyzers to high power AC amplifiers
- Familiarity with test equipment communication interface such as SCPI, Modbus and CAN

Expected Compensation
$80,000 – $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
