Join a team of innovative electrical and mechanical engineers at Tesla who are pioneering the next generation of power electronics for our current and future vehicle platforms. The drive inverter design team is passionate about producing designs with world-class performance and reliability that are manufactured at a massive scale.
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven electrical engineer to join us in the development of cutting-edge technologies from concept to mass production. You will have the opportunity to contribute to drive inverter power electronics design with a focus on power semiconductor devices.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, characterize, and validate high voltage power semiconductors for traction inverter applications
- Measure and analyze data including switching waveforms and thermal performance
- Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, PCBA, and firmware engineering teams to optimize inverter switching behavior
- Design, implement, and validate solutions for EMC, reliability, and manufacturing
- Start to finish ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability testing and high-volume manufacturing
- Solve challenges at scale to achieve industry leading reliability and efficiency in the world’s highest production volume EV drive inverters
What You’ll Bring
- BS or higher in electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- Experience with high voltage power semiconductors including wide bandgap devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs etc.)
- Hands on experience with double pulse testing and thermal characterization
- Familiarity with gate drive and protection circuit design for high voltage power semiconductors
- Proficiency with standard EE tools (scopes, network analyzers, signal generators, DAQs, etc.)
- Experience with scripting for data processing and test automation, e.g. MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW
Preferred Skills
- MSEE or two years industry experience in electrical engineering
- Experience with semiconductor device reliability testing and failure analysis techniques
- Experience with high voltage design (creepage, clearance, isolation)
- Experience with FEA simulation and measurement of device and busbar electrical parasitics
- Knowledge of automotive environmental, reliability, and safety requirements
- Knowledge of basic control theory and experience with embedded firmware development
- Working knowledge of electric machines, field oriented control, thermal design, and/or mechanical design

Expected Compensation
$84,000 – $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
