What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a static equipment engineer experienced in designing pressure vessels & tanks, and performing code compliant finite element analysis for Battery Metals and Minerals group. The successful candidate will be owners engineers who will help lead internal static equipment design scopes and will ensure effective and efficient execution of the externally designed scopes.

What You’ll Do
- Perform/Review pressure vessels (Compress/PV Elite) calculations meeting ASME Sec VIII, Div. 1 and ASME B 31.3 requirements
- Perform local stress analysis of complex geometries using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Convey the design intent (design sketches, package, material requirements etc.) to CAD designers / drafters and review inhouse and vendor drawing submittals
- Understand piping stress analysis reports and load outputs. Prior experience with CAESARII is preferred (not mandatory)
- Get actively involved and provide input in the review of process equipment, vendor selection, and subcontractor services.
- Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement
- Generate/Review foundation loading chart and anchor design for the equipment
- Provide project and field construction support as necessary: including troubleshooting and/or evaluation of existing mechanical systems and structures
- Review and comment on incoming vendor documents (calculations, drawings, data sheets etc.) to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes/specification/practices
- Ability to develop conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand
- Conduct walkdowns with site representatives to verify proper installations
- Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts
- Experience designing API 650/620 tanks preferred
- Agitated nozzle design experience for reactors preferred
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or equivalent, in mechanical / structural engineering with 5 + years of experience in designing industrial facilities and plants or equivalent
- Experience with mechanical design of pressure vessels and piping with software such as Compress, PV Elite, Caesar II
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis package like ANSYS (Static structural, thermal and fatigue analysis experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of codes like ASME Sec VIII, Div. 1, Div 2 (Part 5), B31.3, ASCE 7, AISC, IBC, API practices relevant to static equipment design
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
